The Order of the Varagian Guard

An Idea
Hitorically the Varagian guards were an elite unit recurited from Viking warriors which served as the bodyguard of the Byzantine Emperor and had all their loyalties tied to him...
It has been my dream to create or join a military unit known as the Varagian guards, a unit serving eGreece but composed entirely of foreigners, phil-hellenes, Second+ generation Greeks and akolouthi (native Greek officers who will pass on orders to the Varagians).
In other words it will be a foreign legion with warriors of extreme dedication and loyalty to eHellas. This will be mainly for promoting eGreece for a land that should not only be protected by Hellenes but men of all races alike. For Hellas is a global treasure...
In my opinion the Varagian Guard should be run by the Megas Akolouthos (Grand Follower), who will be answerable only to the Greek President himself. The Megas Akolouthos should be an experienced member of the Greek Army.
The Varagians should also make an oath to the 7 orders of honor which they will follow once they are intiated as members...
Order 1: All Varagian Guards regardless of Rank are Equal and are to see each other as a band of brotherly warriors
Order 2: Regardless of any situation, NO Varagian Guard will harm any eGreek and friend citizen in any way, unless instructed to do so
Order 3: All Varagians must pledge all their loyalty and allegiance to eHellas from this Oath:
'By the edge of Axes, by the length of our beards, we submit ourselves to the Macedonians, the Spartans, the Athenians, the Thesslians, the Corinthians and the rest of Hellas and pledge to fight until there is no one left to fight, to kill until there is no one left to die, and to die in a foul bloody grave so that our spirits may ascend to Valhalla. May all the enemies of Hellas Perish under the might of our axes!'
Order 4: Varagians can never disobey an Order or accept defeat unless within reason
Order 5: Varagians will never abuse their power for Political and Fiancial gain
Order 6: Varagians have the right to fight against traitors who would see Hellas destroyed
Order 7: Outside of War Varagians personal lifes is one of total independence from the Order with the exception that they must honor their commitments to Hellas, especially when called for

Sounds interesting and it could work if the game still had the slight RPG flavour that it once used to... But to be honest I cann't see this working in what this game came to be...

I'm not quite of a history expert as you are, but you missed my point there 😛
I thought he was a Spartan because he had the "hair" of his helm horizontally and i was quite sure i saw somewhere the medusa sign on Spartan's shield 🙂

The Spartans had the lamda on their shield. The horizontal helmet is just a Corinthian design, which the Spartans used for a period of time (before they just used plain metal helmets). The medusa on the shield was use universally by the Greek city states, mainly the central ones...

Well i'm maybe wrong. As i said, i'm not a history expert. I can only trust these people who seem to know what they are writing about. I always love to have a history lesson, especially when I had learnt something which has mistakes.
The website I got the avatar from said Arcadian but still they were quite similar...

As far as your avatar is conserned, I think that on your avatar ther is a Spartan officer.
Spartan officers used to use horizontal helmet in order to distinquish from soldiers

The "Gorgonion" as Medusa was one of the three Gorgones (Half women - half fish) on the Spartan Officer shield shows that he belongs to the Mora (Battalion) of main Sparta.
