The Meaning of Your eLife! (Why Things Suck)
Sir Moke Shag
Yesterday, after the last big battle for Istria, I was browsing the news, and stumbled into a number of „Romper FAIL!” articles. This guy did more than two million damage, yet the battle was lost for Croatia. Naturally, a lot of people did assume, that Romper must be hysterically banging his head against the wall and crying like a castrated pig…
Then a sudden realization struck me like a hammer: We had it all wrong! The naively overblown, real life international conflicts may be the sparks which attract us into this game, but the most common reason behind a gold purchase is NOT the wish to aid your e-country. To put it shortly: players buy gold, to achieve something they rarely get in their everyday life: a chance to be in the middle.
Following this logic, it’s easy to predict, that people like Romper won’t cry after a lost battle. They are the “selfless but tragic heroes”, revered on their side for their “great sacrifice”. They did everything they could, and everybody saw that. Those who weren’t there can still take a look at their new shiny medals. After all, medals are the proof of their importance.
It’s unfair to put all blame on Plato, for a number of reasons. The creators of this game are smart enough to understand the way players tick, and fully capitalize on their egomaniacal motivations. This is the reason why the list of “our heroes” is on the front page. This is the reason why the number of medals available for a battle was increased at least 8 times. And ultimately, this is the reason for the existence of unlimited WP. It’s all there to feed on the illusory self-importance of narcissistic people. In a way, it’s similar to the “big car-small dick” principle.
To a certain degree, all of us are guilty. Myself as a young player, couldn’t resist the laughable urge, to make screenshots of my fleeting heroic moments. The key is to draw a line. Some people are in such a dire need of attention, that they are willing to fight against their own e-country. It doesn’t matter whether you are seen as a white or black knight, as long you are in the sparkling center of things. Obviously, this type of behavior does not restrict itself to the battlefield, but it’s often explained trough some cleverly constructed but hypocritical ideology.
My point is the following: We should keep in mind, that this just a game, and as its players, we are indirectly coo-creating its rules. Some of its flaws are just reflecting our own shortcomings. Also, it must be remembered, that collecting hero medals, does not increase the size of your genitals, and it certainly does not make you a king.
Bizonyos szempontokból a igazságtalan Platónra kenni a játék összes gyengeségét. A jelenség hasonlatos a „nagy kocsi-kis farok” effektushoz.
A rendszer néhány hibája a mi gyengeségünket tükrözi.

Lose the pic and this article could go international
Great article! Back in the days, this was a game with only a few rules to keep us in boundaries, meant so we could create our own game, our own new world. A lot of things may have changed, but I think that even in the current state we are able to make this game great again if we see past stupid achievements and to great political and economic modules. The military module shouldn't be there just for medals and hatewars, but for us to roleplay wars and create strong and mobile armies where each soldier represents a real person. Then I'll might be able to enjoy myself here again. 🙂
Voted!
