The Jack Acid Society

"We have met the enemy and he is us!"
No truer words have ever been spoken unless it was the equally folksy and yet poignant, "If you can't vote my way, vote anyway, but VOTE!"
So who was the genius that spoke these words? Was it General MacArthur? Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower? Winston Churchill?
No.
None of those.
Those words came from the wit and wisdom of Walt Kelly and were spoken by the wise 'possum, Pogo, a denizen of the Georgia Section of the Okefenokee Swamp. Why it (the locale) is specifically the "Georgia section" of the swamp is beyond me. Perhaps Mr. Kelly felt the Georgia folks were more homey and had a finer philosophy than their Florida counter-parts.
Pogo was often seen in the company of Albert Alligator, Dr. Howland Owl, Churchill "Churchy" LaFemme, and others. No doubt we can see characterizations of these laughable and loveable swamp inhabitants in our own society. I would challenge you, the reader, to make those comparisons (a 1 Gold award to the most creative in my opinion) as I continue on with my tired tirade. (For a list of the characters and their specific personalities visit the Wikipedia page on Pogo.)
So who is this "enemy" Pogo so precisely mentions? Ah, yes, "he is us".
What?! WHAAT?
Whatever does Brer Pogo mean?
The eUSA has the greatest potential of any eNation on the ePlanet of eRepublik. It has some of the greatest eMinds; some of the bravest eSouls; and some of the most creative ePersonalities (all right, enough eStuff.)
I will not attempt to be exhaustive in this list so do not get your drawers in a wad if you are not included but we have such people as:
Publius
scrabman
Emerick
Leroy Combs
Eugene Harlot
One Eye
Harrison Richardson
Moishe (the incomprehensible)
PrincessMedyPi
and on and on.....
So why are we not number one?
The answer...
Wait for it.....
The Answer....
"We have met the enemy and he is us!"
Our Congress takes a month to get something done and then the next Congress undoes it.
It is good that our military is not as replaceable as our Congress or each month we would be reforming, reorganizing, and restructuring (as was once the case - thank you, Eugene!)
In the aftermath of the current election I am calling for 100% unity amongst the American people. I urge the winner of the Presidential elections to look at the ranks of the opposing parties and to bring them into the Administration in positions of advisement. I urge the Congress to listen to the suggestions of the President and his advisers and to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Let us not take two weeks to decide if we want to drop Import Taxes from 5% to 1%. Let us get some momentum behind us and get things done!
We can do it! I know we can. And I urge each and every American citizen to contact your representative and give them your instructions.
In the words of another American, "Git r dun!"
Thanks for reading the American Free Press.

I believe more and more people are starting to buy this philosophy. It's about time too, considering how much it seems petty party fighting distracts our government from solving actual issues. Voted.
I love Pogo. Voted.
Thanks for the kind words Moishe.
@Leroy; you, sir, have been my inspiration ever since I first joined the National Guard. If I ever trample on your toes please direct me to this comment and I will fall to my knees in apology!
Signed.
I just wrote an article in my newspaper about the exact same thing, if we adopt Isolationalism then we can solve our own issues, instead of jumping into others' business See here
Signed.

I agree for the most part. The only way in which I do disagree is when "unity" is used to stifle legitimate debate and dissent. Democracy isn't a something we do a few times a month.
Aside from that though, right on Moishe.
Perhaps my age gives me away. I recall studying such things as the Nationalist Movement in Germany. I do not want Congress to give up its right to dissent. I am a firm believer in liberty. BUT....when it will cost little and could be a victory....let us say, One Eye's 1% suggestion? Let's quickly unite and give it a shot. We then find out (quickly) that it is BS (or that it works) and we accept it (or tell him to kiss ass.)
Etc.... 😉
Good job again. voted.
Jack Acid?
Great article : )! Voted.
MoisheMAXX. At last a kindred spirit in the land of the obvious.

@ASTERISM: Must be 'coz I am drunk. Normally folks do not agree with me. 😉
This is a noble goal that I think many of those higher ranked players have been pushing toward. But our nature is to be divided ... it's hard to unite people who don't see the benefit in doing so ... but the effort is worth trying.
Hm. While in theory, the idea itself sounds harmless, but in application some of the best ideas on paper never work out, which is why we have legitimate debates, which doesn't necessarily mean that party politics plays a role.
You have to ask yourself, if it REALLY was a brilliant suggestion, both in theory and the application thereof, why would anyone bother attempting to shoot it down? After all, isn't a good idea good, no matter who the source is?
It's all well and good to promote unity, except when it begins to border more and more towards totalitarianism, which is where I see the eUS headed, slowly but surely. The articles are flooded with writers decrying partisan politics and insisting that we all need to get behind our leaders, rather than vote or run based on our opinions, which may differ. In exchange, we've been called trolls, unpatriotic and even clueless and out of touch? Why? Because our opinion is not yours?
You may not want to believe it, you may not even see it. Perhaps I'm even reading too far into the underlying messages, but I, for one, cannot STAND to see people simply spout blind rhetoric and propaganda without ever thinking about the repercussions that said actions will create. Free thinking should not be discouraged, simply based on another's perception that one only dissents based upon personal preference or party politics. We aren't cliques, or social clubs, we're normal people, trying to make a difference in OUR own way.
So, in closing, one should ask themselves this. Is it really so bad to simply HAVE a differing opinion, if it can help solve problems down the line? Does that make someone unpatriotic simply because their opinion is not the same as yours?
I think what Moishe said is right.
We can fight like hell amongst ourselves during election times.
After the election is over though, we should 1) keep in touch with what's going on in Congress 2) express our opinions, majority or dissenting, in a respectful manner but free and candid manner, as is RL US tradition, and 3) after we have debated it out, we close ranks around one another as eAmericans.
F*** Zoli and his pals.

The "Jack Acid Society" was Walt Kelly taking on the John Birch Society. Denizens of the swamp formed the "Jack Acid Society" to weed out anyone that was not a "true" American (meaning American Indian). Eventually it ended with only one member. You can read more detail on the Wiki page linked in the article.
Pogo was topically controversial way-y-y-yyy before Doonsbury.
Great article Moishe.
