The Golden Path

Day 1,194, 23:50 Published in Canada Canada by Duke Leto

Ladies and gents of eCanada, I am must say it has been a long time since I last wrote something “serious” or if you are old enough to know me, an article which was thought provoking or complete escape from your life into erepublik personified into a living being. I have played this game for over two years (and half as mature) and I feel like a grandfather who has spent a long life on this game. Over this two year period, I have witnessed our country’s golden age and its descent into a spiral of perversion. I have seen great leaders and the worst leaders. Fought in great wars and protested the unjust ones. This two year observation has led me to think about our game’s evolution and what can we expect in the future.

If you are nerd like me, you have read Frank Herbert’s Dune series. Dune is a tale about Mankind’s evolution to save itself from extinction. The series is an epic tale of mankind finding the “Golden path”; the one path so that mankind can live till the end of the universe. The key thing that blocks mankind from this journey is the spice melange: a spice that grants the mutated navigators the ability to fold space and grants people omnipresence among other things. This “spice” as it is shortened to, is the corner stone to the intergalactic economy. In the series of Dune, the Kwizatz Haderach (the theoretical super being) must destroy spice dependency and become an absolute monarch to destroy man’s addiction to spice and to allow mankind to survive and grow pass the known universe.

So why talk about Dune? Well, I believe that the admins are putting us on a golden path. What is on the other end of this path? We haven’t the foggiest idea. What we do have though is a changing game. With constant changes, some unwarranted, some much needed, has led us into a state of anger and poverty. The admins actions can be compared to that of Frank Herbert’s Dune. An example is that we lose our bitching rights when we have issues with the admins. We also have no say in the changes anymore. All the things previously mentioned are similar to Leto II’s (read the books and you will know) attempts at saving humanity. Maybe the admins are teaching us a lesson “…[we] will remember in our bones” (Frank Herbert’s God-Emperor of Dune) when admins give us a good game. Or maybe they are just really that unconnected with their customers. We will never know till the end of this game’s time.

Now in summary of what has been sai😛 Don’t complain about changes. As Machiavelli put it “The ends justify the means”. We don’t know the ends, so let us just live with the means.
