The Golden Path
Duke Leto
Ladies and gents of eCanada, I am must say it has been a long time since I last wrote something “serious” or if you are old enough to know me, an article which was thought provoking or complete escape from your life into erepublik personified into a living being. I have played this game for over two years (and half as mature) and I feel like a grandfather who has spent a long life on this game. Over this two year period, I have witnessed our country’s golden age and its descent into a spiral of perversion. I have seen great leaders and the worst leaders. Fought in great wars and protested the unjust ones. This two year observation has led me to think about our game’s evolution and what can we expect in the future.
If you are nerd like me, you have read Frank Herbert’s Dune series. Dune is a tale about Mankind’s evolution to save itself from extinction. The series is an epic tale of mankind finding the “Golden path”; the one path so that mankind can live till the end of the universe. The key thing that blocks mankind from this journey is the spice melange: a spice that grants the mutated navigators the ability to fold space and grants people omnipresence among other things. This “spice” as it is shortened to, is the corner stone to the intergalactic economy. In the series of Dune, the Kwizatz Haderach (the theoretical super being) must destroy spice dependency and become an absolute monarch to destroy man’s addiction to spice and to allow mankind to survive and grow pass the known universe.
So why talk about Dune? Well, I believe that the admins are putting us on a golden path. What is on the other end of this path? We haven’t the foggiest idea. What we do have though is a changing game. With constant changes, some unwarranted, some much needed, has led us into a state of anger and poverty. The admins actions can be compared to that of Frank Herbert’s Dune. An example is that we lose our bitching rights when we have issues with the admins. We also have no say in the changes anymore. All the things previously mentioned are similar to Leto II’s (read the books and you will know) attempts at saving humanity. Maybe the admins are teaching us a lesson “…[we] will remember in our bones” (Frank Herbert’s God-Emperor of Dune) when admins give us a good game. Or maybe they are just really that unconnected with their customers. We will never know till the end of this game’s time.
Now in summary of what has been sai😛
Don’t complain about changes. As Machiavelli put it “The ends justify the means”. We don’t know the ends, so let us just live with the means.

Why is there a Hetalian in the corner?
There existed no need on Caladan to build a physical paradise or a paradise of the mind — we could see the actuality all around us. And the price we paid was the price men have always paid for achieving a paradise in this life — we went soft, we lost our edge.

I have no idea how that is relevant. just sounded good
We have no path except the path we choose for ourselves and the paths that leaders offer us a choice to follow.
MOO!
If the game is Dune, the admins are Bene Geserit, or the navigators. They don't allow any Kwizatz Haderach they don't control, or aware of. The only thing they like is dependency to spice(gold) which is equal to real world cash for them.
How much did the admins pay him?
O.O 93 votes. I am surprised. Did someone buy votes for me? If they did. Thank you.
To attempt an understanding of Muad'Dib without understanding his mortal enemies, the Harkonnens, is to attempt seeing Truth without knowing Falsehood. It is the attempt to see light without knowing Darkness. It cannot be.

An excerpt from the first novel. I always find this passage an interesting juxtaposition to Leto II's Golden Path. Leto is declared a tyrant for his actions because the people couldn't understand what he was for FOR. I've always wondered if things would be different if people could see what he was working AGAINST. Likewise, perhaps people would be more tolerant of the admins changes if they knew what the admins are working to fix rather than what they are working to achieve.
A few months ago, before I decided on Law School, I was trying to figure out how to write a Master's thesis on the Dune sage. It is perhaps one of the most well planned out, comprehensive, literary social commentary of the last century. You've got to read the whole thing though. Prequels, sequels and all.
Keep Calm & Carry On
We forge our own path.
Lol Golden Path was only possible through intense subjugation & tyranny by Leto II.
I'm a glass half empty kinda person.
I thought i was going to learn to draw circles
