The Fall of France and the Battle of Britain-A Recap of WW4

SUMMARY

It has been awhile since I have done a major analysis of the military situation in the world, so there is quite a bit of ground to cover. A quick recap of all that is moving around before we begin. Following a breakdown in negotiations over an end to the Franco-Spanish War, the United States invaded France in support of Spain and Poland, resulting in the total occupation of the country. The operation was conducted in conjunction with a major push by EDEN into the United Kingdom. In Bulgaria, Romania was repelled by a joint Serbian-Hungarian effort that saw Romania blame EDEN and the United States in particular for the defeat. The Romanian President at the time claimed that insufficient allied force was directed towards this particular campaign compared to the efforts in France and Germany. Fighting has also broken out in South America once more, with Poland’s Peruvian colony invading Brazil in an effort to take out another Phoenix High Iron region.


FRANCE

France was invaded by Spain early in December of last year. Spain’s Casus Belli was the invasion by the French during the summer of 2009 that saw Spain completely occupied by France and Brazil. Incidentally, France claimed that this invasion was launched because of the earlier French Toast operation that had the ATLANTIS powers invading France but being driven back by the PEACE GC Alliance.

Spain managed to secure some major early wins, in part due to the lack of Phoenix support provided to the French due to their perceived betrayal of Hungary at the end of the North American war. France refused to continue attacks on the United States and was (according to Hungary) directly responsible for Hungary’s defeat at the hands of the United States during the Canadian Campaign. France also helped Malaysia out against an Indonesian invasion. All this led to an inevitable shunning by the major Phoenix powers when Spain launched its attack. At the time, Phoenix was not aware of EDEN’s actual objectives in the war. The invasion of France sealed off the US Maritime border with France and provided blocking positions along the US East coast that would prevent the United Kingdom from getting into the center of the United States and blocking American initiative. The US-Japanese war broke out shortly after Spain had secured Southern France. America would go on to invade the rest of Asia, and the UK’s efforts to halt the American attacks on Iran and Indonesia would be thwarted by Canadian and Spanish counter attacks.

At this point, EDEN’s principle objective with France was resolved. Unfortunately, the French were unwilling to end the war. At least, not under the terms Spain demanded. The Spanish wanted to keep the province of Aquitaine for themselves, as it has High Wood; a resource Spain lacks internally. On the surface, this is a fairly reasonable request as France possesses two High Wood regions. For France though, it was a matter of national pride, and the economic fact that Aquitaine was much more valuable then Rhone-Alps due to the number of companies active in the region.

During this time frame, Poland was rolling through Germany in its effort to sustain a baby boom and secure High Grain regions to feed all those hungry babies. The fact that the target was Germany, a country Poland has major RL issues with helped matters enormously. After negotiations between Spain and France failed, the Spanish attacked the French Capital of Paris. They then rolled on to the German border where they met Poland. Spain then region swapped Poland into France to secure territory. This action helped spread around the number of regions that could resistance warred, and also introduced a country that France was not at war with. This fact allowed Poland to wall off France from Spain whenever EDEN was not prepared to launch offensives. It also allowed Spain to wall Poland off from Germany’s ally in the Netherlands.

It was at this point in the war that most commentators came to the conclusions that France was in an unwinnable position. To their credit and folly, the French chose to go down fighting. The constant drain that the war was having on other EDEN efforts at last led the United States to declare war on France once again, and this time one hopes for the last time. US forces have secured Brittany and Upper and Lower Normandy, the final French regions. This victory closes all of Frances’ wars. From a purely editorial standpoint, it is unfortunate that it had to come to this. The French were in the process of forming a third alliance that could have helped spread the international power balance around. It was never really a goal of EDEN, and the United States in particular, to wipe out France. But by prolonging the war, EDEN damage was diverted from other critical battles. This contributed to a defeat for Romania and a constant headache for Spain and Poland. True, EDEN did start the war by invading France, but the French orchestrated their own demise by not quitting when it was clear to everyone they had lost.

UNITED KINGDOM

To Phoenixes enormous credit, the United Kingdom is still hanging on, though half the country has now fallen to the United States, Sweden and Norway. I mentioned earlier (and was accused of propaganda subsequently) that the UK is the only country with so many other nations desperate to destroy it due solely to its actions on eRepublik. Even so, Britain has managed to hang on despite the intensity of the invasion mounted against them. This has led to Britain’s rulers (the same ones who broke the Alliance between Britain and the USA/Canada) to claim that EDEN is losing, and that the invaders will soon be bankrupt because they are spending so much Gold on the campaign.

This is a lie however, and its sad so many Brits are believing it. Unlike in RL, there is no such thing as interest rates in eRepublik. That means money does nothing sitting in a bank account. Gold exists to be spent, and for the USA, attacking the UK is clearly money very well spent. The EDEN block now has the most powerful collection of economies in the New World. Even if we were spending 100% of our daily take (which we are not), it is not an issue since the next day the money is replaced (in considerable quantities). To claim you are winning because we are spending money is silly. The only territory the UK possesses that could be a drain on EDEN’s resources to attack is London. So you can be sure that when we do attack London, EDEN will drop the hammer. Even if Phoenix holds London, we can always attack again, since as was said earlier, our daily take as an Alliance is considerable.


The bible says nothing is impossible for God, so start praying. It’s the only way this can happen.

The British Prime Minister has also been congratulating himself on blocking off Norway from the rest of England by retreating territory to the United States and Sweden. Again, please refer to the statement above as to why this is silly. If we wanted too, we could try and region swap Norway down. In fact, Sweden and Norway might like to get a war going between them, as allied region swapping is the principle strategy used by Scandinavian nations to halt Russian invasions of the region. And again, the loss of Gold might be a nuisance, but that is all it is. EDEN is not going to run out of money. Ever. So it’s pointless trying to get your hopes up in this respect. Just look at the GDP’s of the US, Spain and Greece if you don’t believe me.

With that said, let’s look at where England (no longer the United Kingdom now ) stands. England has been reduced to 4 regions and the coveted capital of London. At this point, EDEN will most likely try and get more countries into Britain in anticipation of a strike on London. The ideal situation would be to have two nations attack London simultaneously, while others wall off the the territory from a potential counter attack. England relies on her allies to keep the wall out of Tanking range. If London is attacked by different countries through different wars, Phoenix will not be able to rely on their two clickers keeping all the fights out of the danger zone. When it comes to mass attacks, EDEN has usually come out on top if the entire alliance is rallied for the effort. There have been exceptions of course, but they have usually happened when major powers like Romania or Spain have been busy elsewhere. This time around, England is the only game in town, and the major nuisance the country has made of itself has united EDEN in the goal of wiping out the country. As it stands, England is sitting in a similarly unwinnable situation as France was a few weeks ago. Unlike France, it is unlikely Britain will be offered any terms outside unconditional surrender.
