The EZStreet Scandal (AKA: How to get EZMoney)
Gary Hubert
Greetings eCanada.
It was recently discovered that EZStreet, Secretary of State, has been accepting gold for looking at citizenship approvals from this image:
Notice that he asks for an administration fee and labels himself as a government official. Doing this as a congressman is already looked upon as shameful but he is using his government position to intimidate these people into sending him money so that they can enter eCanada! He is using his government position to personally profit. Who knows how much money he has collected from these approvals or how many fighters, tax payers, contributors who could have been accepted were denied because they didn't want to pay him. It's not only a breach of good faith and honesty towards these people but also to eCanada as a whole. He is giving us a bad reputation and at the same time, he's closing the door to potentially good citizens.
Now take a look at this message where he admits to charging people for his "service":
We cannot accept this kind of behavior from our government officials.
EZStreet is a crook, no matter how you look at it.

Voted for truth
Ignore the picture breaking there, bad seam.
No publicity is bad publicity
Heres a few questions
How come official government biznaz that isnt a national security issue is taking place outside of Open Door Congress
Also I think its illegal to post PM's
But this is an abuse of a government position, wanna make money off of investigating cit requests do it on your own time and not as a minister.
It's a message for the Ministry of Finance, basically used for quick congress communication now.
@EZStreet: it's "There's no such thing as bad publicity"
Scum.
Hail eUK
There's nothing wrong with charging fees if
A) it's disclosed to other players you are working with and, most importantly, the person who assigned you to this position
B ) it does not complicate the practical work of checking CS requests (ie. the fee puts up roadblocks to those unwilling/unable to pay)
C) there's no other equally capable person who's willing to do the work for free
If any of those 3 are not covered, then public pressure will probably force a recall. Congressmen can get away with charging for CS only because there is no button that can cancel their position. However, they still get to keep forum masking for doing it, so at least you won't lose that, EZ (going by precedent).
Plugson, when congressmen sell C/S, while it is still wrong to do, they do it as individuals and the applicant knows they can go elsewhere. EZ has been doing it under the guise of official government policy.
That's why we call him SleazyStreet - Thankfully Norsefire intervened and ensured he could not be a Party President
That and I usually charge 3 Gold - Although I spare people the Q&A - I usually just respond with the 3 Gold and they send it
Homer, good point. If EZ went through step A) and was granted approval, then it would be 'official government policy' anyhow, so the 'under the guise of' part is what people don't like.
However, you wouldn't say that his actions are worse than those of a Congressman who sells REAL c/s approvals, would you? On top of that, he's doing a bit more work than them and getting less Gold per approval.
It is different because when a congressman does it the applicant, if not a fool, thinks "he's a conman, I'll try someone else". When it's the government minister responsible for checking and approving applicants most would think "if I don't pay I won't get in".
His background checks have lost all credibility because it will now be assumed that he has only approved the ones who paid up.
It is a dangerous precedent allowing people in official positions to decide that they will start charging for their services without any oversight from the CP or their peers. What if Gary were to start charging people an "admin fee" for his work with the Construction Program or if I were to charge new players a finder's fee for placing them with a mentor?
Homer, I agree with the points you are making.
Nonetheless, a gut instinct tells me there is some disconnect going on when Congressmen are able to charge for c/s without repercussions yet other roles are held to a higher standard. Not saying the bar should be dropped or raised respectively, only compared to notice a peculiar irony. Perhaps I'm only picking up on the old and familiar mismatch between in-game rules and valued-added processes.
After all of my time in government in this game (13 congressional sittings, more in cabinet, 2+ months as comptroller, former CAF supply officer and officer) working for eCanada and citizens, what must be hundreds of hours, I can safely say I have never taken any money/items from anyone, ever (save CAF supplies cause well duh, that is the point) To do so from other players for any reason is bad form and quite frankly, an abuse of power. Especially when no one officially knows it is going on save you and the person paying you.
Plugson, are you feeling alright? It doesn't seem like you to revert to the old playground defense: "But he's doing it!"
I believe it is generally accepted that a Member of Congress should not sell his citizenship approvals. I would suggest that most in fact don't propose bribes and look down on those who do for their unscrupulous nature. Perhaps more should be done about this. Maybe we can specifically prohibit the practice and have someone message those who are applying to tell them that there is no fee and that they should report any attempts to be bribed.
Now, our lack of enforcement for them aside, what EZStreet did is also pretty despicable, perhaps more so. He went around to applicants suggesting that they needed to pay him before they would be accepted as citizens. He did this for his own profit without permission. As others have already asked, is he only approving those who have bribed him? How many legitimate applicants has he ignored as a result of their refusal to pay? How many times has he profited (outright lying aside, there is a limit to how many citizenship approvals that a Member of Congress can ask a bribe for but if EZStreet is pre-approving candidates there would be no limit)?
There are a multitude of reasons why what EZStreet did was wrong and your three criteria, Plugson, illustrate the only time when it might be acceptable. But just because others aren't punished for similar bad behaviour does not forgive EZStreet's actions.
tl;dr: "But he did it!" is not a valid reason for EZStreet to have proposed this bribes.
The FBI is watching 😉
FBI surveillance van #9065 is on this case
I'm not surprised. I've been fighting against his corruption for months now. And despite being labelled as the 'bad guy' I've continued to fight the good fight. SleazyStreet has shown that my past actions have been justified.
Disgusting.
Definitely not right to charge for Citizenship
What a loser.
So,following his logic,he should get gold for investing time in erep ? lol
Admin,I demand 100 000 gold right away !!! : P
I thought the going rate for citizenship approval was 4 Gold and as I always I completely disagree with Chochi and the wall of text.
Chochi, my comments were meant to encourage an even playing field, rather than lowering the bar because others sell citizenships, too. Perhaps the 'three criteria' should be applied to Congressmen as well as Ministers.
Public opinion tends to hunt down prey that is easily caught (thinning the herd of the ailing, you might say). The only reason EZStreet will be targeted while grazing Congressmen are allowed to wander the playing field wild'n'free is that they have a natural immunity known as 'in-game mechanics.' If they did not, I'm sure the grazers would have been hunted to extinction some time ago. I'm just here to poke public opinion into trying bigger game once it has had its fill here.
The problem Plugson is that SleazyStreet isn't a congressman.
He's volunteered for a job (volunteer as in not being paid for) that allows him into the process of citizenship approval and then using his "Government of eCanada" stamp he's found a way to extort gold out of woud be eCanadians.
If a Congressman, who's won the right to hand out citizenship, sells their CS pass that's their own business. It might not be generally accepted but game mechanics give them the ability to do so.
SleazyStreet doesn't have the ability. He's using his title to imply a "Pay me or you don't get in" scenario, and it's not even close to right.
I agree. It's silly of him to do double the work for a quarter of the pay while having no immunity from persecution.
Let this be a lesson to the public servants out there looking to make a quick buck. Stick to Congress.
(I mean, that is the lesson to be learned here about getting EZier money, as implied by the title of this article)
This is what happens when you worship false idols!
Thanks to all
so the moral of this story as i'm starting to learn is that i should BEGIN TO SELL MY CS PASSES? because thats really what it sounds like some of you are saying.
i'm stupid for not abusing my power to increase my personal wealth......
Look at it this way. You can make some profit BUT eCanada will not be a good destination for your allies who buy CAD = more gold in Canada, then come for a few days to work in Canadian firms, build some mines and get out. The fighters and the fermers that come for bonuses and give u some dmg and taxes is anothe subject. But if you lose your reputation and respect, people will choose another country to do their business in.
Wow i did that job before, working for the immigration and informing congress about citizenship request, But never ask a 1 gold for admin fees, and it use to take me about 3 to 4 hour a week to do a background check and email the player. to my opinion he should loose his position with the egovernment. this is just shameful.
I wonder how many other corrupt members of Addy's former cabinet are still in place?
Now I see what they have pushed so hard to validate their "De-Facto Executive" to maintain their power in Addy's absence...
shame, I know zap6, he is a nice lad!

screamingslave, the moral of the story still is that you shouldn't do anything dishonest.
Less honest people than yourself will take away a different moral.
Honestly, who'd buy votes for an article like this >.>
One week age, and before this story broke, I wrote to EZStreet as a congressman to ask him how he vetted applicants to Canadian citizenship.
There was no mention of any 1 gold administrative fees in his response. If he thought what was he was doing was on the up and up, why didn't he mention them then?
: )
it's just a game
make it fun
but no one loves the corrupts..
right my friends?
...
My best regards to Melissa London

Hmm, I wonder why I'm not in this wonderful Ministry of Finance message thread .. and how many other message threads there are outside Open Door Congress?
Who has chosen the 24 people in that message thread?
Also I guess the description of this proper procedure is buried somewhere in the Congress area?
Is this the level of transparency in Congress these days ... and these the fruits of the lack of transparency?
Yeah - I'm running for Congress ... but seriously!
"1 Term All Around Amazing Guy"
i'm an all around amazing guy...
can i has 1 gold?
@Decode - you're not in the PMs because you weren't on Addy's 'approved' Congress members list. There is no level of transparency when Congress members are excluded.
@ Decode
We tried to warn you all and no one was listening...
Addy claimed the "CDC security Breach" as a method to exclude those from conversation that didn't "Cow-tow" to his way of doing things. It was his "Shock Doctrine"
Discussions happened in these threads and only these threads to exclude dissent. People were made to feel "privileged" to even be in the thread, and thus went along flavor of the leadership or risk being excluded
This is the "Shadow Cabinet/Congress" that those such as Myself, Wally, Muglack and others have been talking about
Here's another thing, The three of us currently have forum bans... Wally and Muglack for not towing Addy's company line...
@Wally & Rolo - I'm on Addy's list, but apparently not on EZStreet's list .. don't try to twist this to political agenda
I'm concerned as much as you are about transparency and freedom of the media - but right now, I'm targeting my words to EZStreet or any other Executive member that distributes information that is supposed to be in Open Congress.
I support the decision of Addy about the separate message thread - but that is a totally different issue - what I'm worried now is that Congressman are not allowed to see information they deserve .. with your case, probably you didn't deserve CDC information?
The entire point of Open Door Congress isn't just for congressman, but the general public has viewing rights to the discussions and can form opinions on those subjects and opinions of the players involved in them
Way too much discussion has been made in these PM's not national security related, and I have seen most of them
You're right - in this case general public should be equally entitled to see this information so that it would be more difficult to misuse power.
However, I see as a bigger issue a scenario where ( not banned XD ) representatives are not allowed to do their daily work / participate in decisions. I'm happy with not being in the loop when it comes to sensitive matters, but these were issues that basically I was elected to deal with.
Jesus christ. Why is there even a discussion, EZstreet has done something morally wrong mor ethan anything. He should lose his position and we would hope that he'd send the gold back. Hopefully we can find people in the country willing to speak up about this. 1000cad or 1 gold is a hell of a lot of money for some players.
Canadian congressmen have been selling citizenships since forever, afterall, they have to pay for the votes they bought to get into office in the first place.
There are no morals in this browser game, it is the wild, wild, west, and it is ruled by the golden rule: he who has the gold makes the rules.
"The three of us currently have forum bans... Wally and Muglack for not towing Addy's company line..."
FYI, my company line is eCan law.
Corrupt congressmen charge the fee in exchange for approval.
EZ is charging a fee to administrate and he's transparent about it, whoopie-shit. The fee is payable whether they are accepted or not. EZStreet is top notch and I stand behind him...
...as I walk out the door 🙂
Corrupt congressmen charge a fee for quick approvals so that you don't have to bother with all the bullshit red tape.
SleazyStreet IS that red tape. Now he's charging too. Except he didn't earn the right, he volunteered to be a volunteer, then decided it wasn't all it was cracked up to be and slapped a price tag on the service.
The real problem is that he didn't tell the Congressmen who he was asking to approve the people that paid him, errr.... "passed the test" that he was charging them. Gary Hubert had to discover it for himself. That's the real outcry here.
