The end of a dream.

I thought a lot if to write this article or not. What is the purpose anyway?. I thought, flippin` hell, I will just let it go because after all it`s just a game.

However something doesn`t feel right. I was always true to my heart when writing articles and when trying to make EDEN look like a living paradise. I truly believed in the EDEN cause hence all my propaganda articles written in the Voice of EDEN.

Comparing with our enemies, we were different. Sure we did plenty of mistakes but still we were driven by far more noble feelings than our enemies were.

I always took pride in the fact that EDEN was not like the others. When our enemies from Peace/Phoenix/ONE were doing the best to win, at the expensive of everything else; for me the fact that EDEN was a group of friends was the only thing what mattered.

Who cares about victories? What do you win anyway? Some pixels?

Well, for me the fact that I had friends to fight for was what made the game fun. It`s the community that makes a game great. It`s the one next to you that gives you weight, that mirrors back at you who you are and what you mean to the world. And I was fortunate to be in an alliance who truly stood for something.

I always looked at the neighbor, the greedy, corrupt, doing anything in order to win, betraying friends if they were too weak, ass-kissing enemies if they were too strong, and watched him failing try after try because he didn`t knew the secret: victory is for the one honest with both friends and enemies alike. So one by one, Peace, Phoenix, ONE failed.

What caused my discontent you ask? Well, last night eTurkey was invited to join EDEN.

From all the countries in the eWorld, EDEN invited in the most corrupt, the most untrustworthy and arrogant country there is. I`m not going to linger too much on why they are as they are. Everybody knows about the dozens presidents banned for multies, or about the multies farms they created in the EDEN countries in the past. Everybody knows about the bots they made to win wars unfairly or about how they DDoS-ed the Erepublik servers when their biggest tank Battalgazi was banned for breaching the Erepublik terms countless times. Everybody knows about the hacking of accounts and how they bought so many strong EDEN tanks. Everybody knows how they jumped from alliance to alliance and how they changed their friends as they seen fit.
Not even one country in Erepublik has a darker past than eTurkey. And is by far one of the oldest enemy EDEN had.

And still somehow a bunch of people thought they are EDEN material. Let`s talk about this for a bit. In full eTurkey - eIran conflict one influential EDEN guy decides, "Hmm what if I bring eTurkey in EDEN?" And thats what he did. He negotiated with the Turks and then he talked it out with an EDEN Adviser who presented the matter to the EDEN MC and the new intermarry EDEN SC. That was all it really was. 1 outsider and 3 EDEN HQ players made this whole thing possible.

Afterwards, a summit was called. (As a side note, the rest of the EDEN HQ was not even informed about this. Myself I had to make a fuss on the EDEN channel in order for people to wake up and see what was going on). The majority of the presidents were in favor of this move but they asked for 1 month for normalizing relationships followed by 3 months of trial membership, which is a pretty reasonable move from the CPs if you ask me. If that was to happen I would probably myself look at eTurkey with different eyes now.

However that didnt matter because this group, who was so determined to bring eTurkey in EDEN and defeat ONE by all means, went back to the Turks promising them only 1 month of trial membership, and even that done in secret.

So far so good, another summit was called and this time the presidents were asked to vote eTurkey in EDEN with one month of trial - trial which is not to include joining GEA (Garden of EDEN Alliance) - our new made branch. And why would they? After all, eTurkey is eTurkey. They are so much better than our current GEA members (Albania, India & Holland) or than all the other EDEN countries that had to go through trial in order to join. I guess the rules are different according to size...

The above paragraph by itself says it all about how much eTurkey cares about EDEN and about words like "brotherhood", "honor", "unity" and especially "sacrifice".
eTurkey joined EDEN with the sole purpose of fighting ONE. Nobody in there gives a rat`s ass about EDEN. Their reason for joining was simply because they were butthurt that ONE didn`t let them in for a whole year.
But I guess we should congratulate the Turks. eTurkey asked and a few EDEN guys provided.

So the summit was held and Turkey was voted in unanimity (there`s no other way) to join EDEN (plus the 1 month "discrete" trial membership). --> That as a sidenote for those who think that EDEN betrayed them. No, your own country presidents did 😉

Now the only reason why eTurkey was brought is the extra damage. Those who brought eTurkey in care about one thing only, to crush ONE completely. This is the sole advantage of having eTurkey in there. That doesn`t make them any different than ONE does it?

Lets take a look at the disadvantages shall we?
- the losing of the status EDEN had for more than 2 years of a "brotherhood" who fights for what is ethic and fair and who doesn`t trade it`s principles for the sake of victory
- creating turmoil inside the alliance by estranging large amounts of EDEN soldiers who felt cheated and sold out (me included)
- creating even more chaos inside a few countries that have RL issues with Turkey (Greece, Bulgaria, Israel especially)
- losing the "icon" status EDEN had among other alliances and making EDEN citizens lose motivation to fight for an alliance that is no better than the opposition.
- losing the respect of the smaller EDEN and GEA members who had to go through trial in order to join and seeing this rule doesn`t apply to a "big shark". We`re all equal but some are more equal than the others.
- risking breaking EDEN apart by "throwing" countries like Israel and Bulgaria into the "welcoming" hands of our enemy. I see the ONE diplomacy already started with propaganda and manipulation against those inside EDEN who are not content with this move
- risking breaking EDEN apart for the sole reason that eTurkey can create a group of friendly countries inside EDEN to do their bids.
- risking breaking EDEN apart by having eTurkey taking over the EDEN HQ and acting like they please considering the fact Turkey never really cared for alliances they were in.
And the list can go on. Indeed the extra damage on the battlefield is clearly more important than losing EDEN in the long run.

And now... Not much is left to say. I realize that the true spirit of EDEN died a long time ago and that we are not any different than the alliances we fought with all this time. How am I to go to a Polish and call him a backstabber? How am I to say to a Serb that he is that or the other? What ethical background do I have to do such when I see that my own alliance brought the biggest cheater in it. Of course that didnt stop some who after spat the Turks in the face now they go and kiss kiss and make up. Hypocrisy much?

As a note I realize this article could be regarded as offensive by Turks but in no way do I bring any real life interference, hence the use of eTurkey. In real life I dont have a problem with anybody. But in Erepublik eTurkey is by far the last country I ever wanted to join the alliance I was a member of. And I`m not overreacting when I say that I have more respect for our biggest all-time enemies eHungary and eSerbia than eTurkey.

Two months ago I published an article greeting EDEN for its 2 years celebration. I was hoping back then that there will be a third as well. Now thinking about it, even if it is one or not, it doesn`t matter anymore. The magic is lost...

In the end I would like to make it clear that I do not want to spoil the waters in any way for those who are in favor of eTurkey joining EDEN. We are all here to have fun the way we want to. They have the right to enjoy it just as much. And if 14 EDEN presidents voted in favor of eTurkey joining then there`s not much to say.

EDEN marches on but things will never be the same...


This is just the confession of an EDEN soldier who feels like he is too old for this New World.
