I’m a fairly new player, so I haven’t had a whole lot of experience with this game yet. Since I began, I have finally leveled up enough to unlock all of my features, and thus I have become far more active, first by establishing an org. and company, then by joining a party, and more recently by creating a newspaper. I was really exited to get involved in my first elections, but after witnessing the severe harshness in this election that I am left extremely bitter.
The majority of campaigning in this election (more like a war really) has been mudslinging. Another troubling issue was the political espionage that took place within the CSD, and what little action eCanada has taken to deal with it. Accusations have been flying from every direction, and hardly any real issues were touched upon. Not that there haven’t been any good campaigning methods. I would like to thank Adasko for providing reasonable solid arguments during the election(to some extent 😛
), and I also commend Unthak for apologizing for his earlier article, and replacing it with one of the best election-related articles I’ve ever read. (Way to go guys!) I was also pleased to see both the CSD and CEP mentioned transparency and I am relieved that full transparency is now immanent.
Overall I feel this election has become a warzone. What frustrates me the most is how much poor Cleo was targeted during this election. I’ll admit that her running for Prime Minister was probably biting off more than she could chew at the moment, but that’s a simple miscalculation and is most certainly no way to justify the tons of attacks she has had to endure. After beginning to receive hate mail ( which is truly and utterly despicable) on her personal e-mail, Cleo has is seriously thinking about leaving the game all together. Since she has already been quoted so much during this “war” I’m sure she won’t be too offended if I do one myself.

There are way to many mean spirited individuals in this country and personal attacks have been the norm for as long as I have been here. While I myself have never been the target of the school yard bullies I have seen some very good people torn apart. I have left several times in disgust and returned hoping that things have improved but sadly that has yet to happen.
The attacks both mean in spirit and slanderous in nature often accomplish the goal of those low enough to use such means therefore not likely to disappear any time soon. Once you put yourself in the public eye you must develop a thick skin to allow yourself the ability to endure the antics of the immature.
What did she expect? as a fairly inactive player she didnt even bother to post a cabinet list OR and updated Platform, both of which are givens for any presidential campaign. Every article she posted was reactionary and there was nothing inspiring about her bid.
However I do condemn the email that were sent to her, I draw the line where the admins draw it. If you cant post it in eRep then dont send it.

There are many things that do not break any rule or law that I will not do as I find them distasteful. Sinking to the lowest common denominator may be okay for some but I try to hold myself to a higher standard if at all possible. But we are all different and make our own choices, to engage in meaningful debate one can point out the short commings or flaws in others or the position that they take or represent with out being cruel.
This war has caused the murder ofone of the greatest party presidents I have known in my life. Thanks to hate mail, I see her corpselying there. PGF I like your rant, nice and clean and equal and unbiased. Unlike those who would like to see Cleo embarressed, i pity you because you gained up on her as a group. Now she has died in eLife as not a coward but hero. All those whom sent the hate mail are cowards for not talking to her face to face.
She was an excellent PP, she was always cheery, supportive and took whatever you said. I felt really welcome at first and that gave me the confidence to use my voice. (OK, keyboard 😛) I will miss her sorely and a hope that this sort of thing never happens again. (One can hope right?)
Now, I can fully understand being offended by what was sent to her personal email.
But...why doesn't she just report that person? After all, that would be considered a personal attack, which is against the rules.
It was her personal email. She doesn't know who sent it.
A lot of things brought down Cleo, and it is a shame we lost her. She was everything Nosyt, and yet she couldn't handle everything and grew hopeless. We've lost an excellent future leader of eCanada.
There is no excuse for peoples actions. I don’t know her and never spoke with her, but the idea that she was bullied out of this election infuriates me!!! I am equally disappointed in her for not sticking through it, how can you lead a country if you can’t deal with seemingly overwhelming opposition.
A vote for Bruck is a vote for a bully. Spread the word.
Look, politics are always dirty, we wont change it anytime soon, i think the email was horrible, whoever sent it or ones like it should be ashamed!!! But Cleo actually left, thats insane, i never had the chance to speak with her, but ive read alot in the news. All i can say is, whoever wrote those emails, is a sad sad little human being. And perhaps one day Cleo will come back.
@Falling Moon: Hypocrite! If you are so infuriated then why would you try and "spread the word" that "Bruck is...a bully"? That is a good start in lowing yourself to the level of whomever sent the email to Cleo. Email and unqualified reactions like these should not be condoned.
I, and I am sure the rest of the CEP, deeply regret that some heartless, useless tool sent the message to Cleo and attached Bruck's name to it. I hope that when she regains her strength that she will return to Congress, as she is one of the more brilliant minds there.
Just to expand on what Ralph said, the e-mail is despicable and I, as a CEPer, or any respectable eCanadian for that matter, would never condone the use of such pathetic and childish actions. I find it both unfortunate and disappointing that Cleo chose to withdraw because of this, especially on such short notice.
Having said that, your comments Falling Moon, are only slightly above the e-mail that was sent to her. If you find it so offencive than you should be avoiding sinking to similar levels.
It is only reasonable that if you expect others to conform to moral standards, that you too hold yourself to an equal standing.

Seriously girls and boys, any personal emailing like that is just childish, and also most likely the work of a child, so whoever did it, grow up, redeem yourself, quit laughing at all of the publicity it has gotten, apologize to Cleo, and learn to live up to more than what is expected from a 14 yer old.
It is easy to take a casual approach to things when you are not the target. The acts were such that they caused Cleo to not only remove herself from the elections but to leave the game as well.
All is fair in Love and War may be a cute little saying as long as you are not on the receiving end of things.
@dabman - The admins will know who's email it is. Look at the reaction of the rest of Canada - they're appalled too! Obviously this is not the sort of behavior we condone, and if she had made this public she likely could have gotten an apology from the CEP or something.
That email was despicable. But I don't buy that the whole world is against her, and I wish she would have just fought back (because she would have won - that person would have either been banned or taken an irreversible rep hit) instead of quitting.

I had and still hold a lot of respect for Cleo. She was the one that got myself more involved in the political side of this game and thank her endlessly for it. As for her reasons for leaving...they are her reasons. Reasons that went beyond the game and reasons caused by the game. Whatever Cleo decides, I will back her 100%.

I've recently become a Bruck supporter but as I'm sure nearly all of his supporters would agree, these kind of personal threats and attacks are very childish and stupid.
At the same time though we have to remember that this is the internet. If you draw attention to yourself you will attract these kind of attacks. It happens everywhere. I'm not saying it's right, it just seems that people shouldn't be so surprised and upset when it happens.
Alright, lesson learned. Politics is rough, however methinks we have to do what we can to ensure that it doesn't become personnel. It's when hatred is allowed to run rampant that this sort of thing can occur.
