Dear friends

I will try to keep this relatively brief. We have had a very successful first week- and I know that because my direct intervention has been rarely required and our ministries have more or less run themselves. I want to start with a huge thank you to Talon Karrde, Paul Tyndale, Mr Immanuel Kant and of course Huey George for their hard work over this last week getting articles out, resetting all our organisations and setting up government for the coming term. I would also like to offer some words of encouragement to the new players working with them in government- it is early days and there’s a lot to take in. Whatever happens you will always be rewarded for trying hard and getting good work done.

Defence and Foreign Affairs

There are no significant wars of concern going on right now world wide. Our current training war with Croatia had a bit of a hiccup earlier this week when Croatia mistakenly attacked the wrong region, however it was resolved very quickly and with almost no consequences. I want to remind citizens to fight for the eUK in our resistance wars- this is part of our agreement with Croatia. It also gets you freedom fighter medals.

In terms of foreign affairs, we have been working making contacts with governments around the world. We’ve had some top level communications regarding training wars, but as I said in my manifesto I feel one training war is all the UK can manage and I am happy with our current situation. In general our position is secure at present.

Home Affairs

New Player Friday has been safely transitioned to the new Minister of Home Affairs and had a successful run. Due to technical difficulties we are having problems finding new players the old fashioned way, so if you’re a new player and want to be included in our schemes (but are not currently receiving NPF messages) please send Talon Karrde a mail and he will add you to the list.

We ran our first national lottery last weekend and had 30 participants. Congratulations to Pannonian Nomad who won. For future reference, writing “If I don’t win it’s a scam” in the comments does not guarantee success. Please do participate- the more people who enter the bigger the prize. In future we may look at making the lottery more complex but we will see how the trial goes firstly.

Talon is also working on other ideas for entertainment and games so if you have any please do drop him a line.

Congress

We had some drama at the beginning of the month with certain congress members trolling the congress thread with comments about RL religions, races and so forth, much as they do on the national feed. In order to prevent that, the congress thread has been split in two with the main troublemakers (all PCP congress members) in one thread, and everyone else in the other. Congress has been very sensible since then so I’ll mark it as a success, even if it is unfortunate we have to take such drastic measures in the first day of a new government.

Congress also voted on a change to our Work Tax this week. In line with my own manifesto goal we have lowered our tax rate from 3% to 2%. This will still cover all of our expenses and allow us a small surplus each month, and will make working as manager more viable for our citizens. Hopefully this will encourage citizens to reinvest the extra money in training grounds and companies. The recommendation to congress was made following a discussion with Huey George who knows our finances far better than I do.

Thank you for reading,
