The decline of a great game?

Day 1,432, 18:58 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Jacen Molare

I am fast approaching my third new-birthday on Erepublik. Three years seems like such a short time in real life (the length of time of your average university course), but here in the not-so-New World, it is several lifetimes. Several lifetimes worth of war...Several lifetimes worth of governments (good and bad)...Several lifetimes worth of silly admin blunders and catastrophes! In short, I've been around the block a fair bit!

Don't get me wrong, I've had a great time on eRepublik. Met many great people (and some arseholes too). I've gone from being actively involved, to being a two-clicker, back to being actively involved. At present, I do a bit more than two-clicking (more like twenty-clicking), and I add some input here and there (on eUK forums, as well as eRepublik). However, I just can't help shake the feeling that the New World is in it's Last Days. For months now, there have been considerable changes. I'm not against change per se, and indeed it can be refreshing, but admins have consistently made changes with little to no consultation with the community. When I first joined, admin were interested in the community's views, taking constructive feedback on board and implementing the more reasonable suggestions into workable ideas. Now, they make arbitrary changes which not only change the game dramatically, but quite frankly, make fools out of us all who have contributed to this game, especially those of us who have invested money! Time was, it took a lot of effort and hard work to get anywhere in this game, and your achievements meant all the more; now the admins, with the help of the gold beasts, have taken most of the enjoyment and achievement out of the game. I understand that this is something that admins (and those who pull their strings) want to make money out of. But constantly pissing off the dedicated subscribers to your product is not the way to maximize profitability!

Recently there have been quite a few high profile names express their discontent at a game that constantly changes, and admins who never seem to listen. These people have grown so tired of this game, that they have decided to call it quits. Everyone has to make that call for themselves, but I am an eternal optimist, and I live in hope that if some of us stay, and if enough of us make enough noise, then maybe, just maybe, the admins will listen. I remember the times of Operation: French Toast. I remember when we left Atlantis and got a new hospital out of the deal. I remember Ajay Bruno/Winston. I remember when worker skill was important, not just for the worker, but for their manager too...And I remember when this game was cool. When we signed on, not just to click buttons and buy gold, but because it was fun, and about community! I hope we can see those times again...well maybe not Winston!

Keep on fighting the good fight!
