The Community Development Program

Day 784, 10:12 Published in USA Greece by Maxx Johnson

It is with great pleasure that I announce the beginning of the Community Development Program. The Community Development Program will be a new program run out of the Department of Citizen Affairs.

The eUS has long had issues retaining new players. Despite an impressive inflow of several hundred players each day, we have largely failed to retain these players and help to turn them into active and productive citizens, and our population has stagnated because of it. The most often pointed to problem with retention is social contact. Contact with new citizens within their first few days of life is a critical factor for success in helping them to stick around and grow up to become active voters, productive workers, and trained soldiers.

Currently our only method of contact with each new citizen is the welcoming message. This message, while good in content, comes packaged in a way that appears to most new players to be simply more Admin spam. The Community Development Program will work to address this. Members of the Community Development Program will work to contact new players within their first few days of life. To do this, members of the program will be asked to spend 10 minutes a day a few days per week sending out a pre-formed message to new citizens. Each new player will be contacted twice by the program. The first message sent will give them information on the basics of the game, how to get involved in the social community on the forums and IRC, and how to use government resources such as Meals on Wheels. The second contact will be made a few days later as the citizen should be approaching level 5. This message will focus on how to fight, the importance of moving to a fortress state, give them access to sign up for a free moving ticket, and promote the US Military. The most important part of these contacts will be to let them know that there is a community of players that they can join behind the dullness of the first few days of two-clicking. It is important to know that this program is not intended to act as a pseudo-mentor program and that program members will not be looking to act as a mentor to the new players that they contact. Instead, this program will focus on taking a proactive approach to contacting citizens rather than the reactive approach currently taken by our other programs.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Community Development Program sign up Here. Once you have signed up, you will be contacted within 24-48 hours with the details you'll need to get started in the program.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Maxx Johnson in game, on eUSForum, or on IRC.
