The Cancer That Is Harming Our Country: Media Misinformation.

Day 1,256, 12:38 Published in Egypt Egypt by Jacobo Gronaven

Hello eEgypt, First I would like to say I am honoured to be able to serve Egypt in this month's congress, I promise to encourage reform in our government by drafting a constitution, a constitution that's aim is to create political stability and defeat political corruption, but lets leave details on that for another article.

The reason I have decided to write this article is because I have seen an influx of articles in our media that are written with little research and gives the impression that the writer simply clicks on the world map makes a story out of it, not taking a minute to research articles from other countries or perhaps interview Presidents, congress members, and other government officals that have to do with the article they are writing. There are several articles in or media right now that are guilty of this, I do not need to pint out which ones or name their writers, but they know who they are (hopefully), and you know who they are.

Before I go into what can be done to prevent this, let me explain why mis informed articles are so destructive it is better to write no article then a misinformed one.

1.Citizens (especially newer ones) look to media articles as an information source, saying that a nation that is not our enemy is an enemy can confuse them

2 .Misinformation in politics can cripple the democratic process and is as close to fixing elections as if can get in erepublik, if a Citizen believes in misinformation, they may vote for the candidate who believes (or says he believes) the same misinformation, allowing for incompetent representatives to get in office.

3. It hurt's foreign relations, not much is worse then sacrificing your country's security to land swap with a key ally in order to protect them, yet those who are misinformed but have a newspaper, in a nation who is supposed to be supporting you, are telling their readers that you are not land swapping with this nation to protect it, but betraying and invading them, believe it or not this is currently happening in our media, and even authors once considered to be credible are now guilty of this from of misinformation.

Now that you see how harmful Misinformation is to our nation how can we prevent it

1.Do your own research, see an article providing questionable information, look at other articles in eEgypt's media
and decide for your self if it's credible or not.

2. When you see an article with misinformation, be sure to comment about it to bring this misinformation to the author’s and reader's attention.

3. Do not vote or sub the article, this will not only encourage the spread of the misinformation and cause some to believe it true, but also make the author believe what they are writing is good, causing them to continue to spread this misinformation

4. Write your own articles; make sure to do your research by reading articles and interviewing government officials from the country relevant to your article.

I hope that after you have read this article that I have brought this issue to your attention and will do all you can to fix this problem and in turn help eEgypt.
