Eastenders is argueably one of the most recognised theme tunes in Britain. It is the most widely watched soap in Britain if anything.

Radio Shows

I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue (ISIHAC) is the oldest and longest running broadcasted comedy/ quiz panel show in the world. It ran for 51 seasons up since 1972.

It is widely popularised that ISIHAC created the idea of Music Mash-up. The round 'Sing one song to the tune of another' involves doing as the title suggests. Here is a very funny one I found.

Mornington Cresent is a very popular game on ISIHAC. The general jist of the game is that panelists can use the Tube Map, London streets, Landmarks and even Airports to arrive at the final destinatation 'Mornington Cresent'. The idea behind the game is that the rules are never explained so the audience just listens to the panelists play. The rules are always percieved to be overly complicated involving traps, sin-bins and spoons. Many variations are brought to the game, and are sometimes explained. For example in 'Tudor Court Rules' you may collect tokens. 5 tokens earns you two consecutive turns. Other variations include the 'Windows 98 collectors edition Rules' and the 'Stephen Fry Black out Variation'. Most often, extra rules will be enforced, such as 'no Cross-rail on sundays' or 'No through line at Finchley Road and Frognal'.
When listening to the game, it seems as though it follows no order, with panelists making query noises, questioning other people turns, being impressed by the cleverness of a particular move etc, until someone calls out Mornington Cresent seeminly at random.

The UK Top 40 is officially the UK's charts list, even though it started as the presenters 'opinions'.

Television

Doctor Who ran for 11 series up until 1989 and started again in 2005. Its merchandice revenue is estimated at £106 million a year. The iconic image of the blue Police Box, is more associated with the show than the Metropolitan Police, even inside the UK.
There have been 16 spin-off shows, 10 actors, the 4th Doctor (Tom Bake) being one of the most popular. The current doctor is played by David Tennant.
Doctor Who was the first ever non-American character to be portrayed in South Park, the Simpsons, Futurama and Family Guy.

Top Gear ran for 45 seasons between 1977 and 2001. It was relaunched in 2002 and has since won many Baftas, NTA's and emmys. Top Gear has been bought by 4 other television channels, and it widely popular, not just because of cars, but because the presenters are extremely funny.
This is one of the funniest thing you will see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GZRmzuiig8

Little Britain despite only running for 25 episodes, remains one of the most popular sketch shows in the UK. Little Britain was broadcast in 39 different countries (not including continental Europe), and recieved such a strong reception in the US that 'Little Britain USA' was produced. It attracted just under 1 million viewers overseas.

Planet Earth produced by the BBC in 2007 has been the biggest selling Blu-Ray since its release.

Internet
Apart from being the first Radio to offer internet live streaming, and offering the UK's first free catchup-TV system, the BBC website (www.bbc.co.uk) is the single most expensive website to run in the world (partly because its an entirely free service).
Within 2 weeks BBC iPlayer contributed to more than 50% of the UK's live streaming memory.
BBC news website is globlally the 4th most viewed news website.

Other than It's own website, the BBC has a youtube channel (BBC), Facebook, MySpace and Bebo page and other social networking and sharing sites.
