The battle for initiative

Day 890, 17:02 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Jack Jockson

The day after the largest and most expensive Phoenix operation in history - cutting Poland off from Western Europe and striping it from high resource regions - the war continues.

Phoenix alliance successfully concentrated all the effort in the operation in Berlin and Rhoine Alps the other day. The operation which turned out to be a heavy blow to Poland. Poland invested 23.000 gold into defense of their two regions. It ended in Polish market left exhausted after the battle, lacking pistols, citizens trapped without tickets.

But to Phoenix, this victory came with a price. Romania and Croatia destroyed large part of Hungary. This effort was costly, because it took a lot of various attacks to keep the initiative, and it vas dangerous, because it activated substantial Phoenix MPPs, that could prove fatal for Romania and Croatia in the future. And in the far east, China gained Jilin, the territory from which it can block Serbia and Hungary by attacking their Asian colonies.

The Balkans - home of some of eRep superpowers

Just a short basics for those who are unfamiliar with it:
the initiative - series of attacks until the opponent gets his turn to attack
the block - the attack that keeps you from taking initiative
MPP - mutual protection pact, gets triggered when the country's original home land is attacked

The war continues and in the Balkans it becomes a battle for the initiative.

Hungary took the initiative

In the morning Hungary took the initiative in the war against Romania, and from their only remaining original region of Central Hungary, launched counter attack on the Romanian occupied region of Northern Hungary.

The night before Romania attacked Northern Hungary and so triggered second attack on Hungary while their first attack on Central Hungary was already taking place for some time. This gave the possibility to Hungary to use the scorched earth tactics. Hungary did that. Hungary withdrew in the morning from the first battle of Northern Hungary, then defended their Central Hungary in the second battle. This gave Hungary an initiative, a chance to attack lost Northern Hungary immediately afterward. Hungary counter attacked and blocked Romania.

Prior to that maneuver Hungary had to watch their high iron priority region against Chinese and so it had to let go a large portion of their homeland to simulateneous Croatian Romanian offensive. Afterward Romania went on retreating and going south against Bulgaria in Vidin, blocking the south, stalling and waiting if possibly Poland could join the Hungarian front from the north.

Serbian initiative

Serbia was blocked by China and India constantly and it took some complicated Russian maneuvers against China to provide Serbians with 6 hours time between the battles to do their job. Serbian job will be to block Romania and Croatia by attacking their non original regions. Attacking non original regions is cool, because it doesn't trigger MPPs.

Complex Russian maneuver against China and fatal 2 minutes for Chinese

A couple of days ago, Russia didn't succeed to take Jilin, the Chinese territory on the borders of Hungarian and Serbian heavy metal Asian colonies. But due to the lucky circumstances, Russia managed to keep the initiative and attack Jilin again.

First, 40 minutes before the end of the Jilin battle, Russia attacked Xinjang. This makes sense, because by the time China defends Jilin, she won't get the initiative, but will have to defend Xinjang instead. But Phoenix should have predicted that China can retreat from the Xinjang battle before the end of the Jilin battle, China would gain the initiative that way and Russia couldn't attack her for the next 24 hours. It was crucial that Russia keeps the initiative and attacks Jilin one more time before Chinese Polish MPP gets into effect. Phoenix made a mistake attacking Xinjang 40 minutes before the end of Jilin battle, it should have been made 1 minute before instead of 40 minutes. But luckily for Phoenix, Chinese president was late retreating from Xinjang. He retreated from Xinjang 2 minutes after the Jilin battle ended. This helped Russia to conquer Xinjang and attack further from there.

Fatal 3 minutes for Slovenia

After the Chinese mistake, the similar Slovenian mistake happened. Slovenia was in the midst of Balkan wars among Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania blocking and unblocking each other.

Slovenia was getting initiative against Croatia at 14:25 while Italian attack against Croatia was ending at 14:28. Meaning Slovenian president had 3 minutes to attack any Croatian territory to prolong the block. That didn't happen and at 14:28 Croatia gets it's turn and attacks Slovenia and Hungary immediately. It's true that EDEN countries tied 100 Slovenian gold each, by proposing MPPs, but that shouldn't be the excuse for this missed chance, you could always have a man logged into the bank account ready to react in such case. The excuse was, as it was found later, that Slovenian president's computer was attacked by hackers.
