We're raising VATs to 20%, and lowering income taxes to 1%. This was approved in the emergency 24 hour congress vote. Please vote yes on the upcoming tax proposals.

That's very good. I mean not your proposal but her beautiful legs. Lol
This is relevant to my interests - as a common labour worker at my local Iron Processing Plant, I can't help feeling that to me, and my other middle-class workers, as well as the lower classes, this will hit us harder - it feels like a cheap ploy by our government to bow down the rich man in Japan.
We will only gain a fraction more of our wages, yet end up losing it all simply trying to buy food.
I hope, in the next elections, that the Democratic Party (which I belong to) will take part - I hope to bring more people to this country, and make it easier for them to live here - the country and the people will benefit.
I understand how you feel. The simple fact is that this is not intended to benefit either richer or poorer players. Because of recent changes in the economy module, the income tax is only taking in a fraction of what it used to. This is because it is now possible to work in your own company tax free. That is not a change we made -- but it is a change that makes it necessary to collect taxes from elsewhere.
The timing of this was not good, since it will decrease the availability of food and weapons to our younger citizens, right during a war. However, you have options to get involved. The JIA is always looking for fighters; visit #JIA on the Rizon IRC server to learn more. The reform would have been better earlier, but it was necessary regardless -- it is especially crucial during a war, that we keep the confidence in the national currency.
There is not really any easy way to tax the rich anymore... but high VAT on weapons or houses is about the best we can do. There was no support for changing just those, though, so we are changing the taxes across the board.
Thanks for being interested in the tax debate, and I hope you do become active in the DPJ. They used to be the second most active but have slipped lately -- they could definitely use bright new faces. Good luck with everything!
