Tactics 101
Good Afternoon America.
The functions of war in eRepublik may be unclear to many of our citizens, so I thought I would try and clarify a little.
Here are the rules of War as stated on Wiki.

The wording can be a bit unclear so here are some in game examples.
Currently, We are under attack by Indonesia in Arkansas and Texas. Many of you have noticed how they attack more than one region at once. There are a few reasons why they do this. So long as we have an open attack on our soil, we can not go on the offense ourselves. Also, the loser of a battle cannot attack for 24 hours.
You see so long as the US is under attack, we cannot attack. The only way to attack and go on the offense is win and close all active battles for the day. In other words, we have to win on one front (Texas for example), retreat the other opened battles immediately, then go on the offense quickly by attacking an Indo controlled region.
They also attack multiple regions in order to have our population waste damage (like in Arkansas). By doing this they siphon off some of our strength and soften up harder walls, like the battle in Texas. Not only does it work, it affords them the option of retreating if they are losing in either Texas or Arkansas and attacking again, in order to stay on offense.
Why is staying on offense so important? A losing country cannot attack for 24 hours. The winning country can immediately attack after winning a battle or by simply having an open offensive battle. There is no waiting period, they carry ALL the momentum. They can attack multiple regions and retreat or simply lose the ones they aren't winning to split our damage. So long as they have an open battle and are on offense, they can keep attacking. Example: The Us secures Arkansas and Texas is still being fought for. Even though Indo lost in Arkansas, they can open an attack on an American region because the have an open offensive battle going in Texas.
If you add in the attacks we face from Russia and Portugal, you can see our dilemma. They only way to turn the tide is to win on one front, retreat the other two, and immediately attack, or win all three fronts (currently more than three battles) Once on offense, we would then need to keep winning against Indo (I use Indo for an example) allowing us to work on halting Portugal or Russia. Once we win on one front, we have to win on the second one, then the third in order to go completely on the offensive.
Again, keep in mind a country cannot attack while being attacked.
Example: Indo attacks Texas, therefore we cannot attack the Azores region of Portugal. So if we were to have an ally open a battle against either Indo, Russia, or Portugal they would be halted for 24 hours, a move that recently was executed by North Korea(it also resulted in them being overrun almost completely in retaliation), our problem is our allies are not willing to repeat the North Korea disaster, so here we sit fighting with only our MPP's to protect us.
Our allies have the same problem we do in this regard, battles that can be participated in via an MPP do not show up in the home country's recent events list. As a result many citizens just fight in the wrong battle or miss the fight all together, which is why our MPP's aren't as effective as it seems they should be.
You also have to factor in the issue of time zones. The server resets at 3:00 am Eastern Standard Time. It resets in the daytime in many of our enemies lands allowing them to better manage the ending of the battles as well as timing them to end while the majority of Americans sleep. As a result we are kept at a disadvantage, which makes it all the more important to go on offense.
How we lookin'?
Not that great to be honest. The only way to swing the momentum is by timing a retreat, getting a win and attack all before they have time to react. All of the above mentioned tactics require gold to do, and it seems we may be out funded atm, and we are losing more of our tax base and losing companies with each loss. However, is it doable?, yes absolutely. We just have to realize what is going on, stay informed, follow orders, and use our heads.
I hope this helps some of you gain a better understanding of tactics and game mechanics pertaining to the war module we have here in eRepublik.

You also have to look at the timing of their attacks. One will attack a low priority target, an hour later another will attack, something random, then an hour later another will attack something of value.
Peace Treaty? Only on terms where we are better off than when Peace began the attack. Anything less than that is worse than total annihilation, as a country...at least, then, after a week or two, we could begin road back with resistance war. Treaty terms would, probably, enslave us to their will for, at least a month, and then they'd have wiped out every friendly nation on earth, denying us help from allies...making resistance futile...INDEFINITELY!
HR is a good man, but, I'm afraid this is a moment when our President must rally ALL AMERICANS to help...the BEST leadership is "by example". We need someone we know and trust...but has, also, demonstrated the 24-7 work ethic (...keeping up with very LATEST developments in war) I suggest someone like Joe DaSmoe. The most focued candidte, presently, looks to me to be Joshua Hoss. Love to hear Joe's thoughts on "changing the guard" at this point!?
We are losing regions, but are we losing hope? Not me. I don't care if PEACE gets the whole Eastern seaboard and then decides to throw a good old fashioned hoot-a-nanny in my backyard, keeping me up to all hours of the night. I'd rather they stick a fork in my left eye and call me dinner than surrender.

But, it's a real man who can get one in the gut with a rusty eRussian bay-o-nette and smile and ask for seconds. Now, tell me why I can't see out of my left nostril, boy."
Ol' grampappy, he could be a mite crusty and, let's face it, insane at times, but he made a good point, one that's stuck with me to this day. Never surrender. Make them earn every yard. And when the time is right, sock 'em in the nose so hard they'll see little white stars on a field of blue for the rest of the week.

You are losing your tax base becasue taxes are so damned high. I left and many others have too. The eUS is in ruins. Come to Spain where taxes are low and the economy is strong.
the offensive tactic could only work, if you had only one enemy, but if you retreat and attack eindonesia, the rest of the peace gc can still attack eamerika

It's good to educate people about how the war system works. Even if it's broken and tilted to benefit an attacker so long as they continue to have gold, at least people won't continue to make articles saying we should attack.
So isn't it feasible to retreat from every open battle we have and open a battle against each of them? We would need to win a battle for this and coordinate the retreats with the winning battle right? If they maintain the momentum then we will slowly lose everything anyway so isn't it time for something drastic?
I'm sure I'm missing something so someone please enlighten me.
If we retreat from every open battle we have, PEACE will just laugh and start new battles, because we won't be able to begin a new offensive for 24 hours. The only reason the "Operation Retreat" maneuvers worked is because we had other nations available to block those countries from launching new attacks.

Thanks for the additional detail; however it is still not clear to me that the US will EVER be able to attack. If we retreat from one region, cannot Indo then just immediately attack another and not allow the 24hrs to pass so that we can go on the offensive? Not sure how we get a 24 hr respite.
Also, it seems to be that the war rules may be broken. Just because one country is on the defensive in one region should not preclude them from going on the offense in another ... if the resources are available.

P.S One thing that WOULD help with MPP's: DIALOGUE WITH YOUR ALLIES! If someone in your gov. shared mission goals and that several times a day with every MPP you got, things might be a bit different. As I've heard, it's more like people not telling what's going on, so no one does anything useful.
I like the comment about playing by the same rules maybe if the server reset was not 3AM in the morning, we would have a easier time playing by the same rules.

So dumb question, when we won the other day, how come we didn't turn around and retreat and launch an attack? And assuming when we won Maryland today counted, why didn't we do that then? Are we scared of losing more regions? Don't we have enough funds/military to actually win one? And now with the last Canadian region lost, should we be helping them in a resistance war? Or should we focus on gaining back our momentum (obviously from a strategic standpoint, versus moral)?

He has a good point and right now our enemies are making joint attacks on our territory we need to find a way to get rid of attacks on our soil we need to reclaim states in a way that he is saying go on the defensive for awhile build up all of that stuff and then once we don't give anymore ground march forward a tatical withdrawl
This is a good article. It's good in theory, but has anyone seen any civilian orders today? An update late yesterday? I haven't. Tactics are great, but if we are all out there floundering without leadership, then all will be lost.
