SUMMIT: The New Map Module

Day 1,852, 09:26 Published in USA USA by Oblige

Previously in my articles about the summit we've seen the statistics and also had a brief recap.

You can also still watch the livestream videos here: http://www.justin.tv/weareobliged if you haven't yet.

My next few articles will be about the new modules that we learnt about in Bucharest. The first will be about the new map module, which is actually more significant than it would first appear, and then on Monday I hope to write something about the new PvP battle submodule. Later in the week you might see a teaser about an as-yet-unannounced change that will have a big impact on the game going forward.

So, let's begin:

To start, the map now shows your current location, as well both your national capital and smaller "regional" capitals. You can zoom to your current location with the "home" button, zoom out to the world with the "globe" button and (eventually) will be able to go fullscreen with the arrows button.

---

You can also see information and stats about a region, which vary if it's unoccupie😛

where obviously we can see the Capital, the region's resource, and current population.

or occupie😛

which adds in time occupied and the occupying nation.

As you can see in the second screencap, that region also has an open RW which you can click to participate in.

---

Country information is available as well through the search bar at the top:

where you can see the hideous visage of our current President, national capital, all available bonuses, as well as total population and rank.

---

There are also different layers of the map which you can adjust:

And as you can see, I've stripped away several of those to show just active battles here:

---

It's important to note that the new module isn't coded in flash, so it's accessible even from mobile devices (like iPhones) and, just as importantly, it has yet to crash even once during my testing.

Alright, that's it for now, please comment with your feedback or if there's anything else you'd like to see from the map project!
