SUMMIT: The New Map Module
Oblige
Previously in my articles about the summit we've seen the statistics and also had a brief recap.
You can also still watch the livestream videos here: http://www.justin.tv/weareobliged if you haven't yet.
My next few articles will be about the new modules that we learnt about in Bucharest. The first will be about the new map module, which is actually more significant than it would first appear, and then on Monday I hope to write something about the new PvP battle submodule. Later in the week you might see a teaser about an as-yet-unannounced change that will have a big impact on the game going forward.
So, let's begin:
To start, the map now shows your current location, as well both your national capital and smaller "regional" capitals. You can zoom to your current location with the "home" button, zoom out to the world with the "globe" button and (eventually) will be able to go fullscreen with the arrows button.
---
You can also see information and stats about a region, which vary if it's unoccupie
😛
where obviously we can see the Capital, the region's resource, and current population.
or occupie
😛
which adds in time occupied and the occupying nation.
As you can see in the second screencap, that region also has an open RW which you can click to participate in.
---
Country information is available as well through the search bar at the top:
where you can see the hideous visage of our current President, national capital, all available bonuses, as well as total population and rank.
---
There are also different layers of the map which you can adjust:
And as you can see, I've stripped away several of those to show just active battles here:
---
It's important to note that the new module isn't coded in flash, so it's accessible even from mobile devices (like iPhones) and, just as importantly, it has yet to crash even once during my testing.
Alright, that's it for now, please comment with your feedback or if there's anything else you'd like to see from the map project!

First reserved for Bogdan for working tirelessly on the maps project and Ghishae for rousing debate with me on the "appropriate projection, you f****ing American."
😃

Meow! Thanks Oblige
cool xd
What are those cities? can you explain a little bit about them?
I can't wait. Looks amazing. Especially the part about it working on mobile phones since I just got a smart phone recently. 😁
>it has yet to crash even once during my testing
Why would you mention this for an HTML based feature?
Nice
nice
"Learnt"
Perfect
With the New Map, I hope the Admins will reduce our regions in the USA. No one ever wants to attack us unless they have 5 other countries helping them. Ever since the military module was changed where you can only attack one region at a time, its become even more apparent.
Not even Poland would want to NE us, not because they couldn't win, but because who wants to take 50 regions, when most of them are worthless in terms of bonus's.
I think 15 regions would be great for us.

really cool!
thanks dude!
thx for sharing

Thanks but will be more useful if they will make something for banning multies.
Yeah, map. That always bothered me. Omg, could admins ever do anythíng useful? I dont think so.
Thanks Oblige!
Thanks Oblige!
@Darren OKitty - currently they have no real purpose, that functionality will be implemented in the future.
@Publius - because the current one is not a model of stability.
Its... just a map...
v!
the game sucks and now we should zoom in on that ?
😮
Well, nice and informative article, but a new map is the last thing this game needs. Oblige, it's funny how you mention the real issues at the summit (like economy and amortisation of companies) and Plato just raves about his new map... They don't listen, unfortunately.
Will Mayors/Governors be reintroduced?
V!
Looks awesome and i think... yes i think i have hopes again.
que bueno qeu esta!
very cool
great
But not enough.
This is much better than fixing the economy, adding it so you can actually set useful stuff as MU DO, or a million other things that would actually improve the playability of the game.
this map is great
The number left of the populations is area ?
can you move from one day's map to another?
