Stand for Austria

Day 1,541, 22:00 Published in Austria Austria by Rangeley

Occasionally, certain people decide to claim entire nations as their personal property. Austria, unfortunately, is the site of the latest such individual: A.Emmerich.

The media is filled with his declarations, many of which are childishly embarrassing, such as direct copies of speeches from Star Wars - but others are actually a bit more telling. As his stated “justification” for launching this PTO, he points to an impeachment attempt against him begun by a “communist.” If you even take a short glance at their account you will see they are actually a member of his party and also came from Hungary.

This attempt to parallel the Reichstag fire (even down to its false flag nature) gives insight into who exactly has declared Austria his personal property - although with the anti-semetic postings by members of his militia it should not be a surprise. They represent some of the most hateful, repugnant viewpoints possible: several even have the symbolic number “88” in their name whose meaning is quite clear.

What He Can Do

Even so, much of his rhetoric about what he wants to do here is overblown. It’s simply not in game mechanics to censor political opponents, he obviously can’t deploy secret police or any such thing. He can call himself emperor, sure: you can too and it will carry the same weight. This is fluff and ultimately a distraction.

What he can do, however, is aid in the immigration of more Kurucs to Austria. He wants to build his base here which can overpower the rest of the community: making it irrelevant and disconnecting it from any active role in Austria. He hopes to weaken the nation, starving out opponents and solidifying his own grasp.

Motives

His actions do not help ONE, or Hungary. The Kurucs have a history of putting real life nationalism ahead of ONE - fighting for instance against allies of Hungary, earning them great distrust there. Austria is another example where they take hostile and destabilizing moves against an ally of Hungary.

His actions obviously do not help Austria - having a vibrant community that allows new citizens to rise up has certainly been abused, but it, more than anything else, keeps the game enjoyable, keeps people returning back, and keeps trustworthy people from leaving the country and perhaps eRepublik itself. Moves to supplant the community clearly run contrary to this.

His actions seek only to benefit himself, and the Kurucs, in gaining a strong foothold here.

The Community

We know what they are planning to do. Though they fill the media with bluster, it should be remembered their objectives are far from met. They do not have a majority yet, in citizens or in congress. They desire both, and will aggressively pursue both.

We know, therefore, what we must do. We must work together as a community, trying our best to stop the growth of the Kurucs - to reject their citizenship requests, to hunt their multis, to fight for control of congress and the presidency. It will not be easy - challenging times lay ahead. But we must be up for the challenge.

We must stand up for Austria, and protect it against those who wish it harm; to show even in the darkest of times, the hope for a free and independent Austria shall not perish, and that the heart of Austria beats on within us all.
