Spam has a Reflective Sheen

Day 5,691, 10:05 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Mr Woldy

Hello Citizens!

I know Congress elections are around the corner and you are gearing up to see some Congress Stats, but they aren’t ready yet! You’ll have to wait for my next article! (They are new and improved this month too).

Rather than post some fun tables with rainbow colours I thought I’d take a moment just to reflect on the eUK and The Real Spamicans compared to how it was six months ago. We have stood for activity, above all else. That activity has led to more accountability of the Government, more transparency in Congress, more articles, more shouts and higher turnout. TRS’s mission to revitalise the eUK still appears to be working. But it hasn’t been easy!

You might say we took the game seriously - but not too seriously. We wanted to work for votes and stand for something, and quickly we were awarded, turning over the speakership to make Congress work again (magic we now bring to Cabinet!), and offering the eUK real choices on election days. We stood for activity and transparency (and wobbliness if I remember correctly) and didn’t like how people expected votes instead of grafted for them. Needless to say we shook things up a bit!

The Spamline

All of this paints a picture of a better eUK. Keep in mind that there are countries in eRepublik with a dead media module. There are countries with utterly stagnant ePolitics. There are even countries where political establishments have bussed in votes to keep power and deliver medals, constantly, to a small handful of players. We are lucky that we have been able to turn it around!

The successes of TRS outlined above show everyone here that the eUK does not want to be like that. The eUK wants elections to matter, it wants an active media and it doesn’t want its voters to be taken for granted. Our progress has been very hard fought for, and there’s still a long way to go - but I cannot overstate how thankful I am of the support TRS has received in votes and in members. No one in TRS takes it for granted and I know the whole party shares my excitement in seeing the eUK look more like a political and social simulator than a retirement home.

Mr Woldy failing to imagine things in advance

On a personal note*, I had long suspected that plenty of eUK’ers didn’t want to see the country go that way, but I was conscious that the established parties couldn’t or wouldn’t find the drive to change it. Eventually I turned to TRS, which was a bit like a retirement home of its own kind, for those players who had ‘fun’ written through them like a stick of rock. I never could have imagined the enthusiasm and drive of those players who joined TRS in the early days, or who were already there. I also could never have imagined the number of players who would take the leap of faith in joining us, and who continue to join TRS, to make it the largest party. My thanks goes to everyone in TRS for making it happen. We all pulled together, did what we could, and it has paid off. It has also shown that the eUK was far from dead - it just needed waking up!

To any players abroad (e-abroad?) who might wonder how you can achieve something similar in your home nations, you need some determination, a core of good pals to help, and enthusiasm for eRep as a game (all of its modules!) and most importantly faith that the public will back you making the game more fun for everyone. You will ruffle feathers as you do it, but it will pay off.

The only thing I have left to say is help us keep on going - please consider giving us your vote in upcoming elections (think about what style of country you want to endorse!) and please think about joining!

Thanks for reading,
Mr Woldy

*I’m happy to admit a personal attachment to the eUK and its citizens. You’re good fun.
