Spain Regains Capital, UK Enters Germany, Day 1087

Day 1,087, 15:24 Published in USA USA by Lieutenant Scheisskopf

Day 1087 brought with it an eSpain on the cusp of a full recovery, as well as a new conflict zone to replace the multi-national fighting that has been rampant on the Iberian Peninsula. The entrance of the eUK into Germany assures that fighting between EDEN and Phoenix will intensify in Central Europe in the coming days, particularly if the eUK ends up on the doorstep of ePoland.

Spain Regains Madrid
eSpain continued its counteroffensive with a combination of conventional attacks and resistance wars (RW). At 01:17 on Day 1086, eSpain targeted its capital, Madrid, which has been under eFrench occupation, with a conventional strike. The move enabled more eSpanish citizens to fight from home, which likely allowed eSpain to overwhelm eFrench defenses and retake their capital. The RW campaign intensified with a new uprising in Aragon, which opened late in Day 1085, and carried into Day 1086 when eSpain attempted to liberate Navarre a second time via RW. If both RWs succeeded and Madrid successfully fell, eSpain would have entirely removed eFrance from its territory; however, eSpain was unable to win all three, winning Madrid and Navarre but coming up short in Aragon. Interestingly, eFrench orders gave higher importance to the fight in Germany than to protecting any of the occupied holdings in Spain, which certainly served to the EDEN country’s advantage in attempting to liberate its lands.

eSpain’s recovery since Day 1085 (left) has been remarkable. A solid combination of RW’s and counterattacks recovered more of the country by Day 1086 (middle), and freed virtually all its mainland holdings, including Madrid, by Day 1087 (right)

Brazil Removed from Spanish Mainland, Quickly Counterattacks
After eSpain’s RW attempts against eBrazil failed, eSpain turned to regular battles and targeted both Andalucia and Extremadura with regular nation-vs.-nation attacks. Although eSpain had been focusing on Madrid during much of these battles’ time spans, the eSpanish rallied in both regions and ultimately conquered both on Day 1087-- although eBrazil clearly wants to maintain a presence in the Iberian Peninsula, as its attack on Andalucia came one minute after eSpain won Andalucia and prevents the EDEN state from relishing in their victory. The resurgent eSpanish also attempted insurgencies in the key Canary Islands, the naturally eSpanish islands which link Europe to South America, and the ePortuguese region of Algarve, without as much success. Like eFrance, all of eBrazil’s Spanish holdings have come under fire; in contrast with eFrench defensive efforts, eBrazil continues to give the highest priority towards keeping-- or regaining-- control of as many of the eSpanish territories as possible.

eCanada continues its gains against the eUK, while the eUK has
embarked on an excursion across the eNetherlands and into Germany

United Kingdom Crosses English Channel, Enters German Territory
The eUK crossed the English Channel on Day 1086 and attacked the eNetherlands, conquering Southern Netherlands and Eastern Netherlands without much resistance. eDutch orders have been to allow the eUK conquest for its own protection, as the small country fears ePolish and/or eSwede attack. However, it was the eUK who made the first move against an EDEN power, attacking at 11:06 on Day 1087 against the newly conquered Lower Saxony and Bremen which eSweden had easily won earlier in the day. As the eUK enjoys a sizable advantage in mutual protection pacts (MPPs), it is enjoying success against the EDEN power occupying Germany. If the eUK wins, it will open a border between the country with ePoland, who attacked eGermany’s Thuringia, earlier in the day; Phoenix leadership must consider this risk to be acceptable, but any eUK success will set an almost certain confrontation between the Phoenix member and EDEN’s largest country.

Canada Continues Offensive in Great Britain
While the eUK took to the attack in mainland Europe, eCanada continued its gains in Great Britain, conquering East Midlands midway through Day 1087, and then continued its offensive with a strike against West Midlands at 12:27. The eCanadian offensive has temporarily halted, however, although they are successfully defending from a RW on the East Midlands which commenced moments after the region fell to eCanada.

The Next Step
eSpain’s resurgence is indeed remarkable and well-deserved, but needs to be solidified before celebration ensues; eFrance is still in position of Aragon, while eBrazil is showing determination to return. Moreover, the eUK has started an interesting turn of events in Germany. If eUK wins against eSweden, it could be a matter of time until ePoland starts a counterattack on the Phoenix power. We may see a power vacuum follow, if ePoland attempted a long advance, and could see any number of Phoenix nations attempt to intervene. To add to all of this is a certain Operation El Dorado and the Tunel de Fuego which have yet to take hold… We are all in for an interesting week.
