Shameless Komix: "Addymandias"
Plugson
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Questo triforme amor qua giù di sotto
si piange: or vo’ che tu de l’altro intende,
che corre al ben con ordine corrotto.
Ciascun confusamente un bene apprende
nel qual si queti l’animo, e disira;
per che di giugner lui ciascun contende."
Purgatorio, Canto XVII
I met a traveler from an antique land who said…
(as quoted from The Presidents of Canada ~ Revisited)
…Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of Parodoxical command…
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things…
The hands that mocked him, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear…
...uh,...yet other hands that mocked him, and another heart that fed;
And on the even BIGGER pedestal these words appear…
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of those colossal wrecks, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
Yet, came over the desert a voice amid the strife,
“Always look unto the bright side of life.”
Have a great May 5th, eCanada. It’s been a long, dry crawl towards a fear-free and hope-full election. Make sure to put your newfound potential to good use. There’s some good stuff to dig up amid the ruins that's still worth showing around. And thar be Patriot Gold in them thar British hills! Way to go out with a bang, Trenton. o7
Your ability to identify comments from various articles and integrate them into art and literature in such relevant and poignant ways never ceases to amaze me, you are a truly talented person Plugson.
I wish Sperry all the best in the upcoming term.
Vote Sperry.
Thanks, Addy. I'm just happy you didn't take issue with lifting your quotes and altering your name. However, it's really all copy and paste, so the talent is with those that either wrote the poem or drew the original images.
Good heavens, plugson speaks!?
I'm not a big literary buff but I do like this poem, I remember it well from high school English class.
No offence taken, and don't sell yourself short, it may be a copy and past but you've sifted through a lot of things and assembled them in a relevant and cohesive way, it takes talent and good observation and comprehension skills.
/me has a nostalgia attack remembering the good old days
"The moving finger writes and having writ, moves on; Nor all thy piety nor wit..." Sadly learning is not a virtue in the increasiningly plebian age... Poor Alexander to be 'body snatched'. I note Sperry quotes Cicero against Plato... oh dear.
Lol!
haha.
I love Peanut Butter Shelley.
One of the most relevant poems for these parts.
