Lieutenant General Ethix steps down

As of Sunday 16 Jan LTG Ethix has stepped down from the Cavalry HQ Senior Staff position of Executive Officer, second-in-command of the Cavalry. He is succeeded by S-2 (Intel) Senior Officer Colonel Avruch, who is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.
HQ Staff joins Regimental Staff, Scouts and Troopers to congratulate LTG Avruch on this promotion. LTG Ethix will remain active with the Cavalry, and until his next duty is determined he will retain his current rank and pay grade.

Young Trooper Ethix, circa 1862

I was privileged to have had the opportunity to spend a few minutes Sunday evening with LTG Ethix.

Custer: So, what do you do in the real world, huh? Do you have a life outside of eRepublik?
Ethix: I'm in the US Air Force, about four years now, and attend college.
Custer: Wow, no sh*t.. if we had an Air Force branch of our game military would you be there instead of the Cavalry?
Ethix: Oh, sure.. yes, of course! But lacking an eUS Air Force, our Cavalry is just great!

Custer: You've been our Exec for some time now..
Ethix: Yes, when General Gannonus retired and RalphyNoPants moved up to General, they pulled me from CO of our Cavalry Scouts (then called Rangers) to be RNP's XO.

Custer: So why are you stepping off such a killer job? You having a dose of RL, or is it a case of burnout, or is Avruch blackmailing you or something..?
Ethix: Um.. kind of a combination of all three, actually. Being a member of the U.S. Air Force is more than a job, it's a life, and it's important as hell that I maintain clear focus on my work. There's some degree of burnout involved, sure.. as with any management job, I enjoyed promoting people and I dreaded demoting and firing them. And the daily grind of being available, not just when I'm playing but to always be on call. Can you imagine being in class learning the fine details of the electronics that run a missile launching unmanned drone, and getting a text message that someone in eRepublik needs their shoes tied?
Custer: ...and Avruch?
Ethix: Well, I'm pretty sure by revealing the nature of his attempted blackmail he won't be able to extort any gold from me.. so here-- here's the evidence he thinks is so damaging to me:

Ethix: Yes, the reason Plato came back to eRep is that Carla is out on maternity leave. And yes, she's having my love child. There, take that Mister Intel Man, now everyone knows!

Custer: But.. sir... we, um.. you... I was going to ask for your opinion, your assessment of your successor, Avruch, to the position of Executive Officer of the Cavalry... but, maybe I'll just skip that..
Ethix: haha! As for Avruch being in my spot... its kinda mixed, Avruch was always one to "move up through internal means." But in my opinion the guy is a genius, he's well cultured with social interactions, and he can and will do the job. As for his intentions to rise in rank I am not sure what his end goals are, but if it's just to enjoy himself and put his logical skills into practice I'm sure he will excel and succeed.
Custer: Doesn't that mean "cutting and gutting, nothing personal it's only business"..?
Ethix: It's possible, but Avruch was never one for sh*tting on anyone's parade, so long as they don't stand in his way. I cant say he will be a more personal leader than me, but if his interest lies in making the branch succeed he is the best choice.. maybe the only choice.

Custer: Okay... and... working for General Ralphy.. I know him pretty casually.. I'm often on IRC late at night when he's playing eRep from work.. and since I don't have a command job we don't talk that stuff.. Is RNP as much fun in a serious work setting..?
Ethix: When we talked about serious situations I always put on my General's hat, and gave him the the best opinion I had. He was always there for me for anything I needed, and always encouraged me to do what I knew was best-- in real life or Cav.
Custer: I'll second that.. RNP is a damn good guy.

Custer: You're staying in the Cav, aren't you? Gonna shove your cool brass in the junk drawer and join the ranks, or... what's next for Ethix?
Ethix: Just plan to be here and hang out, and idle by and see what goes on with the branch. I don't have any intentions of joining another branch, or go into politics. I don't plan on rejoining the ranks.. unless eRepublik improves. Just being social and talking to good friends is enough to get me by.
Custer: I'm hip.. it sure isn't this amazing high tech game we keep coming back for.
Ethix: You got that right, Custer. The only good thing about eRepublik is the people, and the best way to meet new people, hang out and talk and play and kid around is through the military. There is no other group of players in eRepublik that brings people together like the military, for fun, friends, teamwork, organization and structure, and I wouldn't play this game without it or the friends I've made here.
Custer: Amen to that, brother... amen to that. And.. uh.. congratulations, Daddy.
Ethix: Shut the fu*k up, Custer.

A few Cavalry officers had their own two bits to say about LTG Ethix.
3rd Regiment CO Firo Prochainezo: He was a great XO. Brought liveliness and energy to the senior officers serving under him. When we needed to be prodded in the right direction, he'd give it to us. Though the prodding was usually from the rear. The lower rear.
Scout CO Major SVV: Ethix was the biggest baddest motherfu*ker I ever met. I saw him eating a Serbian for lunch one day, he had murder in his eyes. Apparently he stubbed his toe and the Serbian Tank was the only object within arms reach.
Quartermaster Captain Vinny Rumble: He must have been a smart guy, after all, he made the decision to promote me.
Scout Exec Captain HobbitTon: His parents did good work.
Personnel Officer Captain Lietk12: It's been a pleasure serving under him, if you catch my drift.
