Seven votes, Seven thank yous

Day 492, 09:37 Published in Canada Canada by Jacobi

Though I failed in my run for office as surely as the Hungarian contingent failed in their take over attempt, I wanted to say thank you to the people who decided to vote for me yesterday. I was very pleased to see just how close I was to getting into congress, despite not having a dozen hungarian friends or being on The Government's Official List of Perverting Democracy.

So thank you, it is much appreciated.

As for myself, now vacationing in the battlefields of Tyrol, I'll be spending the next month gaining EP and improving my businesses.

The New Congress is going to have to deal with many issues, of course, and will likely have to live through the disruptiveness of the 8 hungarian members of Congress, but as a businessman I am extremely concerned with the state of the Canadian agricultural sector, and I look forward to explaining my concern in this newspaper and talking to other grain industry business owners for their input.

For now, I'll leave you with the complaint I registered on the Canadian forums about the state of the grain industry.

"The Grain industry needs assistance from the government.

After running a Q2 company with diligent workers with wellness levels in the 70s I have come to conclude that the high profitability of the Canadian diamond industry is killing the grain industry in Canada.

All one has to do is look to see that there are few companies willing and able to put grain out on the market, and its no coincidence that the only reason many of them survive is to ensure larger corporations a steady supply of grain.

But the wages that the diamond industry can pay for skill 3 and beyond workers is ridiculous. Its no coincidence that four of the five top paying skill 3 and skill 4 jobs are diamond companies, and its no coincidence that the lower profiting grain companies are few and far between. We can't afford to pay our workers $8 a day for grain at level 3. or $12 an hour for level 4!

As it stands today, even with my workers making $6.10 and $10.25 I am losing $15 CDN a day selling at market price for grain. And the worst thing is, if I did get all the grain companies to raise their prices at a sustainable rate, it would make Q1 food companies bankrupt and make Q2 food companies hardly worth the investment.

Simply put, the government needs to put in place some sort of control before wage inflation kills the Canadian grain industry for good."
