Serbian Official Statement Regarding New Countries

Day 1,408, 09:17 Published in Serbia Serbia by eSerbian MoFA

We have all seen this today:

... As you travel across the eRepublik map, you can find in Southern Europe one grey spot in the Balkan peninsula (see the eRepublik Map). In real life you can find there the Albanian and Kosovo territories. As the eAlbanian community in eRepublik is growing larger and larger it’s time for the eAlbanians to get a country to settle.

So in the following period of time we will analyze what regions will form eAlbania, what resources will be found in the new added regions and what’s the status of eKosovo.

Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs gives you Serbian official statement regarding adding Kosovo and Metohija region to the game:

1. It is very clear, in terms of the law, that borders of one state cannot be changed unilaterally. Every attempt of doing so is strict violation of the law recognized and practiced by every sovereign state. The problem occurred when Albanians that live in Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija declared independence without Serbian acceptance. Similar situations are in Transnistria (Republic of Moldova), and Northern Cyprus (Cyprus). If Transnistria and Northern Cyprus were added in the game as original regions of Moldova and Cyprus, respectively, it is only fair that Kosovo and Metohija region is added as a part of Serbia as well. eRepublik administrators should be consistent.

2. Self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo is not a member of the Organization of the United Nations. The UN Security Council remains divided on the question. The European Union has no official position towards Kosovo's status.

Resolution 1244, Adopted by the Security Council at its 4011th meeting,
on 10 June 1999:

- Reaffirming the commitment of all Member States to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the other States of the region, as set out in the Helsinki Final Act and annex 2.

NOTE: Republic of Serbia is legal successor of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

3. eRepublik shouldn’t take different position than the UN and Republic of Serbia. More than 2/3 of the states have decided not to recognize Kosovo and Metohija's independence. If administrators bring Kosovo and Metohija as an independent country, the company that owns this game could be sued by the adequate institutions and also, forbidden to operate in Serbia. Is adding Kosovo and Metohija as an independent state worth the risk of becoming infamous and loosing the entire Serbian gaming population that makes more than 10% of every day’s active players?

If eRepublik administration decides to add Kosovo and Metohija as an independent state, eSerbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not know in which way it could impact the game and our gaming population. Administrators have been told our arguments. Now, it is up to them.

We are glad to see that Albanian community will get its own state, eAlbania. As this game develops, more and more states will be brought on the map, which will make eRepublik more interesting game to play. Serbian Government wishes all the best to the Albanian players and hopes that they will have good time here.
