Second Presidential Scenario
ultimate523
Hello again, everyone. This article will be my reply to the second presidential scenario. The second scenario(which is purely hypothetical):
“You have a Canadian MU named the Foreign Legion. This MU has special ties to an EDEN country. In this scenario it will be Australia. Australia has decided to leave EDEN. As a result of this, China has begun an attack on Australia. As the attack is underway, the Foreign Legion decide to retaliate and successfully liberate several important region from China.
This action will later on ignite a strife between Canada and China. China accusing Canada not to control it's MU. As a matter of fact, this MU is still funded by the treasury, and thus, the responsibility of Canada. As it escalates, China threatens to leave EDEN if Canada is not removed from the Alliance for supporting a terrorist group.
How do you do to solve this situation, knowing that you can basically choose any approach that will prove beneficial to the country in the end. You are encouraged to treat this matter both domestically and internationally.”
Several ways came to mind for how I would deal with this, and that may show a bit in my response. Of course, like with any situation, there are many variables, so if it were to happen things may not turn out exactly the same. However, I came up with what would be my most likely reaction to it.
First off I would like to state that I would make sure that these issues would have been dealt with much faster so that this scenario would never happen, but since it's all hypothetical I'll continue with it.
My immediate reaction would be to cut funding to the Foreign Legion so that we wouldn't be supplying an MU fighting against an ally. I would make the Chinese aware that we were no longer funding them, and hope that they would stay with us. I would also talk with the MU Commander, and try to gain some understanding for why they did it, but if no valid reasons were given supplies to them would be permanently taken away.
I would work to re-establish relations with the Chinese, but I wouldn't take any further action against the MU unless it was absolutely needed. If that wasn't enough, then someone would need to leave, or be forced out of EDEN. I wouldn't necessarily consider them an enemy for it, but I also wouldn't look kindly upon any country that left an alliance over something like that.
The best solution is to prevent any situation like this from ever happening, but I suppose you can't always know what's going on everywhere either.
Thank you for reading,

Executive Order or by some other appeal to Congress?
Comptroller no longer exists, right? Otherwise I would yank on his chain, too
Comptroller still exists.
Simple and efficient, good response ultimate!
Kinda depends why Australia left Eden imo.
I like this scenario.
I would alert the MU Leader of Foreign Legion that he had 48 hours to discipline their MU and take appropriate action, otherwise I would be suspending their funding. I'd recommend that they remove everyone who fought in that battle and recommend that the MU Commander step down if they led or participated as well. The MoD, MoFA and VP would be copied on this pm.
I would alert the CP of Australia, letting them know that although we consider them an ally and want to support them, in the matter between China-Oz-Canada, we will have to side with China as they are in EDEN. No hard feelings intended. The MoD, MoFA and VP would be copied on this pm.
I would contact the CP of China, with a copy to my MoFA and MoD, and apologize for the actions of Foreign Legion and outline the measures we had taken.
"First off I would like to state that I would make sure that these issues would have been dealt with much faster so that this scenario would never happen, but since it's all hypothetical I'll continue with it."
This is a motherhood statement that we all support but nobody can guarantee. Nobody can be involved in all active situations in eRep and ensure that all matters unfold according to your wishes. Stuff goes off the rails.
Plugson: Most likely executive order.
SaraDroz: I agree, but I assumed they left on relatively friendly terms. More of a "We'd rather be neutral" kind of thing.
Addy: I'd rather cut funding immediately. Whatever they would have gotten could be paid to them later on if they fixed the situation so there wouldn't be too much harm done by it, while two days more of funding would be wasted if they didn't listen.
As for contacting people, I would definitely contact most of the people you said. The CP of Australia didn't come to mind, though, I'll admit, but would likely be a good idea.
And I understand the last part too. It's impossible to be prepared for everything.
Just a question or two: what is the balance of power after China wipes australia off the map without any help from Eden? What strategic positions have been won and lost and by whom?
It's not really specified.
well of course it isn't specified 🙂. It is something that might be considered before deciding what to do. Military/political strategy is often informed by reading the maps. Maps provide helpful information about lots of things including an actor's motivation and future behaviour. Hard lessons learned at the chessboard where the constant imprecation is "what does the position demand".
