Running for re-election.

One of the true lessons one of my university teachers taught me is this: don't gloat.

People hate it when you do it, and you end up getting more enemies than friends. Nonetheless, I should try to prove to the lot of you why I'm a more capable candidate than my opponent in the upcoming Presidential elections. Some would say I don't need to, because the opposition isn't serious - and most of all it's not Danish. I'll get back to that, but let me be absolutely clear: I will keep running for the presidency until I see a candidate that can do the job better than me. That will be the point where I stop. That said, let's get to my point.

This past month has been one of the most interesting eRep-wise in quite some time for me. The Presidency has given me the possibility to once again lead the charge for eDanish gaming. I'm more active than I've been in months if not years. I actually want to play the game, I still get some kicks out of it. Although the media mogul that I once was has taken a back seat for some more pragmatic gaming, I don't think the game has lost any value in my eyes. And believe me, that's a good thing.

First and foremost there's been the Welfare program. Heavily debated, but despite quite heavy resistance there was little if any opposition to actually run it. Almost a week into it, I can tell you this much: we have eight employees on contract. Another five have applied. These 12 produce a daily need for 24.000 WRM. There's once again demand in Denmark. And the program is affordable. So far we've spent 3150. A monthly cost of around 12.000 DKK is roughly half of what we earned in taxes this month - after paying the Germans. Time will tell, but so far we're not in the red. That means we're earning more than what we've spent.

Then there's the treaty. My ministers and I had a sit down with the Germans and crafted a strategy for both our countries, in which we decided to back the Germans while they gave us both the time and means to maintain our own national society. We added §5, which gave us a bit more to say in Union matter. We also established that the union is something both of our communities want. There's a whole lot to be gained from this partnership. Next term I'll be working on integrating us into the Germans Ministry of Defence. I'm also trying to make a bit more drastic changes to the treaty, making it readable without headache pills. Integrating us into the German chain of command will make sure those of you who really want to fight gets the chance to do so, while those of you who want to continue to build something in Denmark also have a great launch pad to start from. Because that's where we need to aim Denmark at: getting our own shit together.

Honestly I'm sad to see that I'm the only serious candidate running for President. I thought we had something really great going while debating the Welfare Program on the forums: at least two political camps who were willing and able to present two different views on how this nation should be run. I'm not saying the opposition is lazy, I'm not saying anyone's not good enough. I just wish we weren't so afraid of hurting eachother that we'd start compromizing playing the game in order for people not to get upset. Emotion is a great motivator. If you feel fired up about something, you should pursue that feeling. Your fire might light other flames. Never forget that. It also saddens me to see that Killers with Spoons get so many votes despite not really doing anything. No political activity as far as I can recollect - yet 38% of congress. That's shameful.

And then to the opposition in terms of elections. Ana Zla Mackica has been in the country for quite some time. She's been running for both President and Congress - failing both times. Time and time again, she claims to want to fight for Denmark - without showing an actual game plan. She then resorts to calling me unpatriotic - only to go quiet or throw random threats around her. I've had great experiences cooperating with players both Danish and foreign. Some of the greatest players this country has had were international. If only Ana had shown some kind of interest, given rational praise or critique, I could've respected her. If she could've shown me where I was wrong or alternative solutions to the problems we're facing - I could've had a chance to test her rationalizing.

There's no way of knowing what Ana might do if she gets elected President, because she doesn't tell anyone. That's why you should vote for me. There are no alternatives.

Let's get welfare up and running. Let's have another crack at the treaty. We now have at least eight players who bother showing up both on the forum and on IRC - those are eight strong names for congress. Let's consider working with Australia. Let's help our Allies in their fights. Let's have a big-ass meet up sometime this summer. Let's fight the PTO'ers away for good, by creating a strong community of our own.

Through all this, you can rest assured to find me in the foremost line. For Germark, forward!

Vote pho3nix on the 5th of May!
