Role-playing, eh?

Day 1,084, 17:13 Published in Canada Canada by Duke Leto

Hi eCanada. I have decided to talk about and argue against this article here
http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/canada-time-to-wake-up-1563318/1/20 written by Samuel Brouillette. I am just going to critique points that he made in this article. Before I begin however, I would like to apologize in advance to Sam if I am misinterpreting your work because you either

a) Have horrible syntax and grammar in English or
b)Your first language is French and then a) applies.
(Let hypocrisy reign 😛)

Role-playing

Looking bad in the eyes of our allies is due to our politics in general. It is not directly role-playing that is to blame, rather that some people do stupid shit to spice up their lives and other peoples lives in game. Look at COBRA created by Augustus Baldwin. He created COBRA because he was bored. It made my first term in an executive position (Minister of Foreign Affairs) fun when I look back at it. All the guessing who was a mole and how I needed to make sure to keep stuff secret made my role in our society fun.

Not only is that it fun, it is necessary in some parts. Do you expect a Country President to be up to date on all political affairs and that everything is being done by him? If you say yes then it is naïve of you to say that. A President requires Ministers to have control portfolios that way the president can have more time to put his focus on other things like RL and presidential duties in game. The ministers themselves hire deputies and other workers to do some of their work so the ministers can do what the president can do. E.g. President has a Minister of Foreign Affairs. That Minister has a deputy and ambassadors who keep him up to date on everything in foreign countries.

I would like to point out as well that you were involved in militaries in this game. Is that not role-playing? I am pretty sure that you aren’t actually killing somebody every time you hit that “fight” button. I am pretty sure you don’t mine titanium every time you hit “work”. Your own existence in this game is role-playing on a minimal level, is it not?

Politics
Do you have any idea how hard it is for a country president to fill up the ballots? Do you have any idea how selecting candidates work in this game? Until you do, then you don’t understand how Rolo got into congress. I have talked to Kilgore about this. He stated that Rolo got in because there was nobody who could take the spot Rolo took. The lack of members was caused by the “Project Mayhem” and how it was associated with the CEP (now NCEP). Now you know.

As for your second paragraph under this heading, it is not good to use the US as an example for inefficiency. Canada works fairly well in terms of congress efficiency. Some times things do get out of hand, but that is unavoidable. A Speaker may go AFK thus causing a flood of un-voted decisions. Then why have a speaker? Well, without a speaker we would have more “lulz” votes as well as people proposing 10 000 CAD towards their own organizations. The other roles make the game fun and also keep the forum/IRC community (whom most consider the most active group of eCanadians) in line.

Please note as well that ATLANTIS sort of went the way of the dodo at the very beginning of WWIII due to the President himself said something along the lines of , “see ya! This alliance is done!” Not a very great example you gave.

economy
We did not whore ourselves to our allies because we believed in being a whole country not a country divided. Yes, having extra gold would be nice, but is it morally right? Also the USA is split between themselves, Poland and Ireland. The war themselves would be costly for anybody as well as how EDEN controls several sources of Titanium. This is what we call a nationalistic view.

There is also a precautionary measure to now being whores. If Canada were invaded on a scale not seen before since WWIII, Would it not be nice to have one source of titanium if either The NWT or Nunavut was invaded and captured? I would. Canadian companies can then still make weapons to help the war effort.

In your second point you had me confused at PEG. I asked people on IRC and a lot of them were just as confused as I was. I looked on the monetary market and did find that PEG was not a currency. If you meant the CAD was being held at 0.031 gold/CAD (Which is what I found out). The Ministry of Finance controls the PEG. If you have an issue tell the government.

Military

Mixing the TCO together with the CAF is like getting a whole bunch of Jews in a room then mixing those Jews with Nazis and radical Muslims. It will not end well. The TCO is more relaxed in terms of military discipline, while the CAF is more role-play soldier/tough asses. The TCO funds itself completely with minimum support from the government. The CAF requires government funding while the TCO puts their personal eFortunes into the militia. The TCO provides damage as well as the CAF. To say that we spend to much time bitching and not enough fighting is what Colonel Potter would say, “that is a load of bushwa/horse hockey!”

So in conclusion Mr. Brouillette, know what you are talking about and use relevant examples, then you will not get as many trolls as you did last time.
