Robert Bayer for President!

Day 557, 22:05 Published in USA USA by Socialist Freedom Org
Robert Bayer is running for President on the Socialist Freedom Party ticket. The following is his candidacy announcement statement:

"Friends and Countrymen: today I am declaring my candidacy for president of the eUnited States of America.

We live in troubled times. Our alliance, once the counterweight to PEACE aggression, is in shambles. Our allies fight with other allies. Spain -- the last high-iron nation in the free world -- has nearly fallen to PEACE.

Recent economic shifts may indicate that PEACE has taken their international aggression to a new battlefiel😛 the market. This is indicative of a rapidly changing world in which wars can, will, and must be fought on multiple fronts: economic, political, and military.

Some have called for isolationism, or at least the eRepublik equivalent of this. I believe that such a policy would be wildly misguided. We cannot simply cover our eyes with our hands and pretend that the rest of the world does not exist. In these troubled waters, we must plot a careful course that will not allow for the seas of fortune to wreck this ship of state on the shoals of ruin. We must choose a course between the Scylla of overreaching international involvement and the Charybdis of isolationist retrenchment.

The Scrabman administration has unfortunately chosen the path of isolationist retrenchment. While by a miracle we were able to save Spain this time, we must be aware that the future holds more of exactly such circumstances. As the media by which wars are fought continually expand, we must keep face, or face a gradual elimination of our allies and, eventually, ourselves.

As such, we must begin on the immediate creation of an economic office within the Department of Defense whose responsibility it will be to monitor and counter possible PEACE manipulations of our markets. Today, the possibility remains open that PEACE members or operatives could travel to our nations and buy up our iron production companies, thereby eliminating our ability to buy weapons. This is a vulnerability by which we cannot abide.

In addition, we must counter this threat with a renewed commitment to the government-owned weapons companies which were pursued under the Uncle Sam administration. These will serve two purposes: first, by securing at least a few of both iron and weapon companies under government control, we can insure that PEACE operatives will never gain a full monopoly over our weapons productions industry. Therefore, we will never be left entirely defenseless, even as we develop methods to counter economic warfare.

Second, government-run companies can provide low-level jobs to new citizens who have sometimes found it difficult to achieve employment. Furthermore, such government companies can take some of the burden off of patriotic private individuals who frequently must hire new citizens at a cost to themselves. Such costs have too-often driven them out of the competitive marketplace.

Another issue that must be addressed is that of taxation. We must retain our low Value-added tax rates, especially in industries such as food and weapons. Value-added taxes force those who can least afford it to pay disproportionately more than those who can most afford it. This is problematic for two reasons: first, the eUnited States government has a vested interest in helping our new citizens level up -- higher-level citizens can afford better weapons with which to fight, can contribute more to the economy, and are less likely to leave the game. Because the VATs are a significant drain on the income of new players, this makes it more difficult for them to achieve greater success and therefore more likely to leave, or at least less likely to be able to afford to fight. Second, high VATs discourage consumption of goods. Especially in times of war, we cannot afford to have high VATs on weapons or food -- two key elements in the maintenance of any decent national war machine.

Lastly, of course, comes the issue of my credentials: I am a former senator from the great state of North Dakota; a former party president of the Progressive America Federation; a member of the steering committee of the Socialist Freedom Party; and an active member of eAmerican society.

If you have any questions, I urge you to send me a private message and I will respond to you myself and as quickly as I can.

Best regards,
Robert Bayer
