Region Swaps, Licenses, and Trade

Region Swaps

A region swap is the use of the war module to affect the change of ownership of one region in a manner agreed to by diplomatic means rather than a region occupied without the permission of its sovereign owner. An example of a swapped region would be the Manitoba and Nunavut regions of Canada which were briefly under American control, and Alaska which was briefly under Canadian control. These regions were later returned by Resistance War and conquest wars with Russia respectively. That both Canada and the eUS consented to the ownership of their territories by the other differentiates the region swap from an ordinary occupation.

Licenses

There is a huge benefit that the US and Canada can take advantage of from their region swaps, and that is the availability of discounted licenses. When a company is formed in one nation, and then the host region changes hands to another nation, the local export license for the new nation can be purchased from admin for 5g as opposed to the regular 20g price of a foreign export license. In this way, a company formed in "the US" while the US controlled Manitoba or Nunavut would be formed with the local US license when it is started for 20g. Now that these Canadian regions have been returned to their rightful owner, the companies still have the US licenses, and can purchase local Canadian licenses for only 5g. This means that a total of 25g can be invested to create a company that would cost 40g without the region swap.

Trade

In addition to the windfall profit of G from the ability to save 15g on an export license, using region swaps to purchase license greatly stimulates trade between the participating nations. All of the companies formed in the swapped region will have cheap access to at least the two participating licenses, and will even the markets between them to the extent that import taxes and currency valuations allow it.

The Better Business Bureau, in cooperation with the Federalist Party, purchased a number of wood, diamond, and gift companies in Canadian regions which are now for sale with their US licenses. The companies are currently for sale on the Canadian company market for 30-34g, but the the organizations controlling each of the available businesses can be contacted with offers, all of which will be considered.

The proceeds from this sale will fund Better Business Bureau company training, new player education and allied militia activities.
