Re: The strategy game

I know this article is definitely not better than the original article, but I just want to share my thought about where are all the strategy in the game now ended up?

A lot of the focus at the original article was about how many clicks the player did. I think the question isn't about the amount of the clicks the players need to do, but the purpose of the clicks. The fact is the admin can create a single button to work in all the mines or all the farms, etc. But even with this, the game would still be the same. You click, the products will be brought out most likely by the game itself and you earn money. Nothing interesting there.

So, the first question I hope answer here is what is a strategy?

I believe a strategy is basically a method to play the game, for a good strategy, it should achieve the objectives you set with the minimal efforts and drawbacks, whether a poor strategy either doesnt achieve the objective, or achieve the objective at a price that is unacceptable to you.

Back in the old days, there are many ways you can play this game, even for a simple merchant, there are many parameters to consider in running a company, for example, you have to consider the profitability of your company before you start, you have to understand the market, you have motivate your workers, teach and encourage them to work at a high wellness. You have to consider what your companies will do to the economy, you have to consider will you find customers to buy your products, and how would your businesses affect the overall economy, etc.

Nowadays, the game became simplier, actually it is too simple. Most of the goods produced are not for other players, so you dont have to consider anything, except to produce as many as you could, they will be brought out by the game itself anyway.

Now, there are now only two ways to run your company, either work at your own company, or hire/fire, the interaction between employers and employees became non-existence. For the last 3 months, I worked in many companies, and I can say not even one employer talked to me.

By simply the game too much, and taking out many the parameters out of the game, the admin also guaranteed there will be fewer ways the game can be played, and there will be fewer strategies come from the players to achieve their objectives.

Another reason I think there are fewer strategies in the game now is because of the domination from players who are buying gold. Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing them, because I am also one of them.

But the creation of these godly citizens with unlimited resources is very difficult to compete with. With the way the game allow you to buy gold without any in game constraints, you can create hundreds of companies, click, click, click and you are rich, or you can spend thousands of gold on bazooka parts or health kits to do 10 million damage in a mini battle.

There are really no viable strategies to beat them because there are no parameters in game that allow players who do not buy gold to match up to players who do buy gold, the only strategy to beat gold buyers is to join them in buying gold too.

It is easy to know if the game still have strategy in it, the way to do it is to look at the people who succeed in the game, and measure how much they know about the game. eRepublik still have some, but it is definitely on a decline.

Once upon a time, when someone called you a good businessman, you would probably be someone who is very knowledgeable about the game mechanics, and how the market work. Now, you could be just anyone who installed a script to do hire/fire.
