Raid on Le Crotoy : How Bob Boblo thwarted the French resistance

Day 1,243, 05:50 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Grampa Alfagrem

Yesterday afternoon the brave troops of the 7th Armoured division embarked on Operation Pinnafore.

A daring swoop across the Channel into occupied France resulted in the '7th' quickly securing Le Crotoy in the face of relentless waves of Polish child soldiers.

The lodgement on the French coast held into the crucial first hour and the troops began to fan out and probe the front lines in an attempt to reach the ultimate objective - The Bridge at Abbeville.

Across this bridge, the rubber resources of conquered France flowed into the Polish capital and success for the daring mission to cut this bonus card from Polish hands before the new weapon changes come into effect would be an important moral booster for allied troops worldwide.

But disaster soon struck the mighty '7th'! A fire mission by Bob Boblo's Own PTO artillery battalion struck the troops as they braved the automated pillboxes and made the dash for the bridge

With no other option then to pull back the '7th' slowly watched in frustration as their inital gain (1-0) turned into a Polish march to victory as confusion reigned in UKWP HQ as the knife in the back was turned.

Despite a late rally the morning came with the battle line extended to only 5-3. The coming daybreak also saw the inevitable appearance of Polish reinforcements and the battle-weary, shell shocked and angry troops withdrew back to Le Crotoy under intense pressure.

With no back-up in sight and realising that the impetus of the battle had now swung against them, command issued the order to withdraw from the beaches as the Poles and their ONE allies edged in front.

Troops of the '7th' you fought bravely against the enemies to your front but lost out to those of them in the rear. There will be another battle in another time when we shall see the end of ALL our enemies o7.
