This is a question I've been asking myself for quite some time.

Why are things funny? Why do we find certain things funny? What makes them funny?

I've figured out that the things that seem funny are often abstract, contradictory and paradoxical, but that was not helping me at all.

So.. Do you have any ideas why something is funny to you?

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says "Calm down. I can help. First, let’s make sure he’s dead." There is a silence, and then a shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says "OK, now what?"

Some readers commented about types of jokes, but pay attention; those are not the reasons that make a joke funny.

There was this joke about a snake biting a person one a farm far away from town so his brothers said if your dead in an hour we know it is a poisonous snake.

Things are funny for so many reasons.
Zordacz gave 1 of them, because they are true.. of course most times the truth is streched and the joke goes "over the top" but i aprove of that since it has a purpose (to make a stronger point and impact).

Some things are funny because they are stupid, like the police and blonde jokes but i guess you can check the truth box there also..

other jokes are funny because they adress common RL situations that are solved in a strange manner and that makes us imagine our similar situations solved like so.. and.. 😃 😃 😃

There are jokes about other nations where you involve prejudice and target some flaw.. These jokes are great because often the very nation in the jokes loves it.. Like scotish being cheap or irish drunken or montenegrin lazy and slovenians being gay or being cunts 😛 and of course bosnians being dumb.

There is a huge variety of jokes and so many types that it could take a few articles to name all and give reasons for them being funny..

No no, that's the point; none of this is a reason to make a joke funny. What you've written describes some of the most common types of jokes, ideed, but we still don't know why are they funny.. 😉
