Protect our Iron Industries / Protégeons nos industries du fer
Bruncecovitch
I went benchmarking different countries that have Iron to exploit. Let me tell you my friends that they are far cheaper than our local industries in Quebec. The main reason is that their labour market is also cheaper ... If we want to give workers good wages and also protect our local industrial companies than we should consider to protect this market by adding Import taxes for Iron.
It would make a lot of sense and we did it for other products, cf Canada Economic stats. Why would we protect other industries from other regions from Canada and not the one from Quebec ?
So please help me to bring this request to our congress by voting this article and sharing with friends.
I want a strong and united Canada.

I'm going to guess that you own a iron company.
voted, I agree that iron is a strategic goods we should protect access to those goods and use them in canada to make value added products here by our own workers
@ Banana Org : Yes I do.
Diamon Industry as a 60% Tax Import Protection.
Iron Industry as 1% ...
how can you make sure that this industry will growth and hire workers in this situation ?
There are 2 high Dimond regions and only one medium iron region.
Thats why.
But still doesn't mean that we don't need to protect our local industries and job.
Tks for your comments
you cannot supply iron to the Canadian market to support our large weapons market and it is to expensive
If all we have is medium-region iron companies producing for us, the price of our iron will be the priciest in the world
There shouldn't even be a Domestic Iron industry, it is far to inefficient, you loose 50% productivity in a Medium Region rather than a High region. Iron has 1% Import taxation beccause we don't have a supply of iron, as Medium Doesn't count. Its just not cost effective, thats why there is no Iron industry in Canada, which is also why Podolia, Western Siberia, Central Greece, North Brazil, etc are so coveted, and so heavily defended.
If you want to make money with iron, move to Spain.
And if you are talking about protecting local jobs, we have high regions of all other land, so they can work there. Grain Companies use the same skills as Iron Companies.
@BelatedDeath, Armour144, UltraDyne Systems : Thanks for helping us to understand the basics of our erepublik Economy.
The conclusion seems to be :
- There is no substainable Business Model in Quebec with Iron : Whatever we do prices will still be to high compared to countries such as Spain.
- There is no substainable Business Model in any area of the world with Medium resources.
Thanks you all for the debate.
I really hope that somedays we will find a way to use our medium resources.
Best
We had high iron import tax in the past to protect Quebec companies, as a result we had some of the most expensive weapons in the world. Even then when Canada was not involved in many battles Quebec just could not produce enough iron.
still 1% is excessively low for iron as it is a strategic resource.Maybe some greedy councilors with weapon companies decided to look after themselves first instead of this important industry. There should be some protection. On the other hand You should try competing in eSpain where there's 50 iron companies. Both sides have merit . A slight increase in imports to say 15% would certainly help.
or you open a iron industry in spain. Buy an export license with canada et voila.
@Gaidal : Thanks for sharing.
@eSell : True that a good balance might be more near 15%...
@Trade&C0 : Licence to export is a 20 gold more to invest in the business. Not sure that the Canadian market would be big enought to worth it compared to other countries (?) The aim is also to create jobs in canada not Spain.
