Prime Ministers Response: Currency Theft
Bruck
As has become public knowledge today there was a theft of this terms budget to the Canada National Defense Org. The budget this term was 35k CAD, a sum of gold held in the org was also stolen. The currency was directly donated to the org "The Evil one" now stationed in Hungary. Some of the CAD and gold has already been "sold" using the Monetary Market, the government is closely watching for signed of the thief. I want everyone to know that myself and my administration will not sit idly by while our currency has been stolen like this.
Access to Canada National Defense
Access to Canada National Defense is limited to the Minister of Defense, his Deputies and the Prime Minister. In this case the following people had access: Myself as Prime Minister, 1ronman as MoD, Gofarman and Coda as Deputies. Currently access has been limited to the MoD and the Prime Minister until this situation can be sorted out.
Minister of Defense
1ronman has decided to take a leave of Absense as MoD and for the time being JT Vanguard will be taking over the responsibility as an outside factor not connected with this incident.
What you can do
Augustus Baldwin, as Minister of Public Safety has written an article instructing citizens on what they can do to help eCanada retrieve our lost currency. Follow his instructions and message the admins asking them to help. The loss of this currency may hurt the value of your currency, it is up to everyone to help so that our lost money can be returned and our economy kept stable.
I want everyone to know that my administration is going to do whatever it takes to find those responsible and ensure they take responsibility. I will personally make this my top priority and have been working with my Cabinet to find those responsible. I tell you I will not allow this to be swept under the rug, not while i'm Prime Minister
Comments
If the government is unable to find the criminal or retrieve the money...Changes in the leadership of the CND must take place to show the public that the government takes accountability and holds its appointed ministers responsible for their specific departments
Petz, you'd have to be a jackass to try to seize political power from the situation. On the other hand, being God-King of the CND would look good on my list of achievements...

So petz, its my fault that CND may have been hacked? I should be held accountable for a hacker?
It's your responsibility to make sure the password is secure, this includes making sure your 'deputies' are trust worthy. I doubt they physically hacked into the Erepublik database so in a way it is your fault.
Ironman, you took responsibility by being the MOD. The theft happened to your department under your watch. If the government can't get the money back then it is natural to blame the head of the department that lost it. Uraczak, no one is trying to take over politically, if the MOD is to be replaced Bruck will simply pick another qualified person but someone has to be held accountable and without proof the system was hacked, then the fault goes back to the security of the passwords.
The password was secure.
8 Characters.
Letters and Numbers.
Password length and variation isn't the only component to password security, it was your job to cover all the bases.
No offense 1ronman but I have to agree with Petz if there is no proof that the account was hacked then those whom had access are the ones who are to blame this happen to me in september last year. But admin helped the problem because not only was it a bug in the system but when they fixed it they took back all the gold that they thought was created from the bug. When indeed that money was earned or created fair and square. Money was not only stolen or removed from the CND during my term but also the bank and MoI companies.
I was blamed for it but with admins help I was proven innocent. But with out proof that the account was hacked then as a citizen I have to beleive that one of the four persons whom held access took the money this blame also goes on the Prime Minister and he to is accountable.
i will accept this story for now but no one should be above suspicion. Though i trust Bruck 1ronman Coda and even Gof, i want to be sure that it wasnt any of them. I dont think a little proof of innocence is too much to ask for when something so important goes wrong
8 characters, numbers AND letters?
1ronman... no, he wouldn't be that stupid now, would he?
Uraczak your still not seeing where everyone is coming from your being narrowminded right now just because the money was removed from CND does not mean the account was hacked stuff like this happens a lot. As a citizen and politician I have to suspect all five the four that had access as well as The Evil One org. No ones is to be left out of it. If you had access then you are a prime suspect until proven otherwise.
It would be really stupid for admins to react to this. That happens in real life as well. I think that Canadian government should take all the blame for this one. Personally as a taxpayer I don't care "how" our monthly budget was stolen, all I know is that somebody didn't do something properly to make sure that our money are safe. I think you should all resign from government. No personal offense, I would probably respect you even more if instead of looking for an excuses you will just step down and leave your office. At the end of the day it's you and your ministers who let that happen.
this whole story reeks of scandal... How did this happen? Why did our elected officials let this one get by? How has no one gotten impeached?
and now, if the mods can't/won't recover the funds, the canadian economy is gone. here is a question, is the password changed whenever somebody new comes into office? what if an older president went off and stole it.
I have made sure the passwords have been changed at the start of both my terms.
Currently there is no evidence to suggest that the fault was that of any member of this government. Everyone with access had proven loyalty, it's more likely the account was hacked in some way. That is something that cannot be prepared against.
OK. So what would canadian government do in order to fix the problem? I think we should conquer the bloody Hungary, get all their money and spend'em in the pub while watching hockey. The big war for eCanada is long overdue.
It turns out the account was hacked after all.

"It turns out the account was hacked after all."
How so? I don't see it that way. Just because someone says they had an infection doesn't mean it's true. If I were to say to you that the moon is made of cheese, does that make it so?
Question 1 - The keylogger he says infected him has to be installed and configured manually. Who else has access to the PC that was illegedly infected?
Once we know the answer to that question, we'll have our suspects. Until then, Gofarman is at the top of the list.
I agree with Petz and others, there must be accountability here. If a sports team loses they change the players and fire the coach. It's not fair, but it's life. There can be no question that the measures taken by those responsible were inadequate; it's time for a change.
More importantly, if nothing changes we're inviting a similar attack in the future! Let's put our heads together and come up with a solution on how we can prevent such a devastating loss from ever happening again.
35,000 is equivalent to 2-3 Q5 hospitals, or enough Q1 food to last a player over 92 years! Put another way, it represents nearly $1400 in real Canadian dollars of purchased gold.
all aboard the witch hunt! grab you pitch forks and axes folks!
It's not the first time this has happened. In the past 250 Gold was stolen from a wartime government account. Unfortunately, the devs were not of help and only clever statesmanship was able to retrieve eCanada's loss.
In any case, I hope the admins are willing to intervene, had the account been hacked. If not, the eCanadian public should make known their disgust at the failure of proper government security and activity.
I recommend an intervention in the spirit of Jay and Silent Bob. Magnolia Fan must pay!
Hey Tantis, lighten up a bit ay? My only two comments in this article are possibly calling Petz a jackass and hoping 1ronman didn't choose his name as the password. I'm not entirely sure where the narrow minded part came from. I'm just trying to have some fun in this situation.
Speaking of which, Tantis, hey, long time no see. How's stuff been going for you?
