Presidential Election: Part II

Day 435, 10:17 Published in Canada Canada by Dominik

I have decided to dedicate this article to the opinions of some prominent Canadians and what they have to say about this election. First, however, let's take a look at the polls:

Zanalan, 35%
Bruck, 27%
Derakor, 19%
Other, 17%

As you can see, it promises to be a close one!

We at Slavia have sent out a number of questions to 14 prominent Canadians. All of them were to answer these three questions:
1. Who are you going to vote for and why?
2. Who are you absoluetely not going to vote for and why not?
3. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) rate the accomplishments of the Zanalan administration. Briefly elaborate.
4. Half of those questioned were asked which candidate is best fit to handle the military and the other half were asked the same question except about the economy.
Reading everything everyone had to say would be excruciatingly long, so I picked out the best.

Question 1

Halve: I personally feel like throwing my support behind Derakor for the CFF but I think that Zanlan might be a better choice, one because he is already widely supported, and also because he has experience in office.
Alexander Rearden: At this point, Zanalan, though I have yet to see the CSD platform for this month.
Augustus Baldwin: Bruck, because eRepublik wont let me write in my own name and I don't know how to spell Zannnalllanan
Emilio Sanchez: Who am I going to vote for. That is a good question, because at the present time I am not 100% sure who I will vote for. Zanalan, Bruck and Derakor, are the main candidates, and all three of them have good ideas and have been apart of eRepublik for a long time; As well they have seen many past presidents succeed and fail, and know what works and what doesn't work. All three would be good for eCanada and would do what they need to, to make us a great nation. I will most likely vote for Bruck, since I think he is able to adapt and if something he proposed will not work, he can change it to make it work. He has done well with the CAF, and if he can channel that success to being President, he will do a fine job.
John Wilkmot: I will be voting for the CEP and more specifically Bruck. I Believe that with a strong militiary and a self-sufficient economy we can take charge of the nation. He also agrees with raising the VAT so we can take money out of circulation.

Veteran and hermit of eCanada, Tom Hagen, admitted that, being unfamiliar with the current political scene, he is going to sit these elections out without voting. I believe that Tom is an example to us all- only making a decision after being informed.

There you have it, varying answers...

Question 2

Mesther: I'm not going to vote for the CEP candidate who ever he/she might be. The reason is simple. Even if i like playing soldier their platform is simple insane. You can't transform a nation of 200-250 people into a superpower and if you're wondering where i got the numbers look at the numbers of people that voted in the last congressional election. Add ~30 that where in a 'black ops' and that's about the number you have.
Marcchelala: I won't vote for Miloslav. Although being from the same region and having some common goals (translating the Constitution to French), I am against the Bloc Populaire du Quebec's platfrom which is separating Quebec from eCanada. And furthermore, this is now impossible in V1, Quebec can't be separated from eCanada, unless it is conquered by another country.
Augustus Baldwin: Derakor, because he is mean and when he says bad things about me I die a little bit inside. At this point I'm an internal zombie.
David Eastcorner: General Bruck, because I HATE military-oriented governments, and I'm a pacifist.
Alexander Rearden: The CHAOS Candidate
John Wilkmot: The Bloc, because I do not want Quebec seperate from Canada.
Halve: I will not vote for Bruck, Struck Last May, and Uraczak.
Bruck, is mainly because I do not agree with the majority of the CEP's plan. Struck Last May, I actually do not know anything negative or positive. Uraczak, it seems there is a little feud going on around the CSP/CHAOS. Chaos is not the way I like my life to be, fun though it may be to experience, living it is a general hell. 😉

Question 3

Halve: I would say 6.5-8. Good, doing the essentials and a bit more, but room for improvemnt.
Alexander Rearden: 7, he got things done were they earth shattering? not really but its the kind of good governance Canada has lacked. We are moving in the right direction
David Eastcorner: I'd give it a 7.5, due to the fact that we achieved a lot in the last month, but can always do better. I especially congratulate the Zanalan government on getting all those tax changes made.
Augustus Baldwin: Six. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that he has done terribly wrong, and for that matter I can't think of anything he has done terribly right either. Six is a nice safe number, not getting worse, not getting better. Just safe.
John Wilkmot: Honestly, I think the Zanalan administration did a good job. I might give it a 7-8 just because nothing horrible happened (lol). But seriously, Zanalan isn't a bad leader or anything so overall a good job. Even though we have a few differences, I think he is doing a good job.
Emilio Sanchez: Well, since I am a member of the Zanalan administration (Proud member.) I think I may not be eligible for this question. But on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd go with a 8 or 9.
Marcchelala: 7 . The Zanalan administration has been better than the Hagen one. Zanalan's main objective was ratifying the new Constitution. And this task was successfully done. His cabinet was well chosen and active. Ministers have done their jobs properly. There was nearly no delay and tasks that needed to be done were done.

The consensus seemed to be at about 7-8. Relatively good approval ratings.

Question 4- Part 1, Economy

Alexander Rearden: Whomever will give me the freest hand in shaping economic policy, though there is a general consensus on the value of increasing the CAD, which is a good move. I have a few other ideas which I am not ready to reveal until I really think them through.
Mesther: I'm going to say none. The best man for the job would be Alexander Rearden The reason is rather simple. He knows the way this game works on the economic level and has the rl skills to handle it. And well he's more diplomatic than me and in the end you need diplomacy not only hardcore economics for the job. At this moment looking back i think i was a rather bad choice for the position. I did some good things on the economic level (pulling about 120 gold out of thin air, getting about 20k CAD off the market, running a month of operational administration without taking money from the treasury) but i suck at communication skills 😃
David Eastcorner: I can't really answer that question, seeing as I'm useless with numbers, but I'd give Zanalan a go before I went for Bruck, seeing as most of the money made in the CEP government will apparently go to Military funding.

Question 4- Part II, Military

John Wilkmot: I think this one is obvious, the CEP is MADE to handle the militiary so in this regard my vote goes for the CEP and Bruck.
Augustus Baldwin: General Bruck. He is head of the military, and he is advised by the former head of the military John Wilkmot. There is no pair in eCanada today that is more experienced or more respected than that team. Oh, he is also running on the ticket of Canada's military party, the Canadian Empire Party. So this one is kind of a gimme...
Marcchelala: I think Bruck would be the best suited to handle the Canadian Military in it's current state. He is the current general of the Canadian Armed Forces, and with the support of John Wilkmot, they could improve considerably the CAF and reform it. The CEP platform is by the way focusing on the military. The CAF would benefit most under Bruck's administration.
Halve: I would not be able to appropriately answer that question because I do not know much about the history of our current military officials. I would say that there have been some grumblings about MeSu and funding; but I have no information of to where the problem lies, with the government, or military officals. The military is somewhat rag-tag, though it is present. Yet members are very active and engaged which counts for a lot. I would give it 6 if I had to rate it.

There you have it ladies and gentlemen, words of wisdom (most of them). In other news, the Progressive Party of Canada (PPC) has thrown its support behind Derakor from the CCF which adds even more tension to this race. I urge you Canada- choose your leader wisely.

That's all from me today, see you next time with more exciting interviews and election updates! Dominik, signing off.
