Pre-Election Update

Day 914, 18:17 Published in Austria Austria by Rangeley

This has been a tumultuous week for Austria, and though some seemingly disconnected events took place, the underlying thread throughout has been a continued and persistent effort to combat the takeover forces attempting to harm the country.

Where we last left off in the previous update, Slovenia had moved to occupy regions in Austria for safekeeping, and to remove enough ATS from the treasury to let us block what was left from being donated out. As was promised by Slovenia, 80,000 ATS was returned to us to a proper organization. The back and forth with the takeover, however, would continue.

The Slovakia MPP

Blocked in congress, there was another way for the takeover to claim money from the treasury - and perhaps even increase their strength. If we were not on the map for congressional elections, anyone who requested Austrian citizenship in the next month would automatically be approved - as is what happened in the Czech Republic, a haven for competing takeover forces today. Further, the nation to conquer Austria would gain the remainder of its treasury.

This time, the Croatian takeover would cooperate with Poland and Slovakia, two complicit partners. The President of Slovakia proposed an MPP with Austria, that was pushed through and funded by the takeover forces here. The purpose of this mutual protection pact was simple. Poland would be able to attack Slovakia, trigger the pact and open a free war with Austria, and then would be enabled to invade Austria itself.

On Thursday, this is exactly what happened. Poland opened an attack, Slovakia retreated, and Poland proceeded to attack both of Austria's regions: Styria and Burgenland. As we had been unable to sign MPP's with congress in the takeovers hands, and our only MPP was with Slovakia - a supporter of the invasion - the battles naturally fell quickly into the underground.

Upper Austria

Though both of our regions were indeed under attack and fated to be lost, a resistance war had been started in Upper Austria some hours earlier. Pouncing on the opportunity, Austrian forces were quickly deployed here, and helped to secure a victory for the resistance, winning the region back for Austria. As this battle ended before the conclusion of Poland's attacks, we managed to avoid being fully wiped off the map.

Today and the Future

Along with avoiding being wiped off the map in this latest round of fights, we also secured a surprise victory in congress when the defense system proposal passed, moving 42,000 ATS out of the treasury and into an official organization. Poland and Croatia are currently in block, and unable to open further attacks against us. While welcome news, we cannot let these victories lead us to lose sight of this reality: a continued effort will be required, to ensure a final victory for Austria in this long struggle.

With the congressional elections looming, the most immediate way you can help out is by joining us as we seek to win back control of the government. You can help as a candidate, or as a voter - any help will go far towards rebuilding an independent Austria. The Rotes Kreuz will be offering moving tickets to anyone that wants help moving to a voting location, and anyone looking for advice about where to candidate or vote can send me a message.
