Political Take Over pt.2

Thank you for the interesting comments on my last article on PTOs. They certainly gave me some new ideas to think about. I hope to write a part 3 to sum up ideas in the comments for further discussion and one last analysis of another type of PTO.

In part 2 I want to discuss a more sinister aspect of the PTO. I regard a PTO as a perfectly fair game mechanic when a single citizen or group of citizens uses subterfuge and cunning to gain access to a countries positions of power. Although I think the anonymity of this game does make it easy to do, it is still an interesting and, in my opinion, fair way to strike at an enemy.

However there are some players who do not suffer even this sense of fairness and who will go to great lengths to PTO a country without the cunning or skill which can be, at least, acknowledged in a normal PTO.

This kind of PTO usually involves the creation of a large number of fake accounts inside an enemy country. These new citizens bypass the citizenship check and rise up the levels a few days before elections until they reach voting age. These citizens are sometimes bots or just players using multiple accounts. Either way, the results can be surprising if the countries increase of population went unnoticed. The new citizens then make use of their votes to elect a PTOer into a position of power and we all know what can happen if they are successful.

To add insult to injury these multi accounts provide free gold and currency to further harm the target country by working in companies, earning medals and rising levels. It is up to admin to stop these multi accounts before they can cast their plethora of votes and as we have seen admin is not always quick enough.

I find this method of PTOing a country despicable. PTOers may have some technical skill in computers to avoid their multis from being caught and they may even put in many hours 2 clicking their multi accounts but it is not in the spirit of the game at all.

Honestly, I don't know how a country can steel itself against such an attack, as the safeguards admin have in place are not enough to stop PTOers using this technique. The only mechanism I can think of to stop such events would be to put a cap on the number of new citizens a country can receive in one day. Even if there was a citizenship waiting period put on excess new citizens to give admin a chance to look for irregularities.

It is not all doom and gloom for countries that suffer these attacks however. There are those citizens who will venture out of their way to put a stop to these attacks. Groups of these players are known as ATO (Anti-take over) teams and they can be called upon in a time of need by a country which has identified a take over threat. Election battles between ATO groups and PTO groups can go on for several elections and it requires a lot of effort and good communication if the ATO group is to succeed. PTOers often wait until the closing moments of an election before throwing their weight in and swinging the election leaving an ATO without enough time to respond adequately.

Please comment, I'll probably edit this article a bit after the first few minutes as I always do.
