Play it Safe on Election Day

Day 1,808, 02:37 Published in Australia Australia by Chris Carnage

eAustralia is at risk of Political Take Over (PTO) in the upcoming presidential election. I think pretty much everyone agrees this is the case so I won't bother with evidence. It's still possible they won't try to take the presidency but there is a very real risk they will.

It appears at this time that we will be having an in-game presidential election with multiple candidates AND a potential PTOer. This means the eAustralian vote will be split and give higher likelihood that the PTO candidate (if there will be one) wins. I'm not here to discuss the pros/cons of that (it's been done to death already), it's just how it is so let's plan around it and vote smart.

Here's some things you can/should do to prevent a PTO candidate winning:

1. Vote late

Voting is open for 24 hours. It is only toward the end of the voting period that the situation will be clear, particularly as PTOers usually try to leave their votes as late as possible as a tactic to catch us by surprise. We might find in the last few hours that we're safe and you can vote for anyone, or it might be a tight race and your vote could decide whether we keep our country in eAustralian hands. Of course you shouldn't abstain from voting if you can only be online early in the day, just vote for an eAus candidate.

Vote as close to day change as possible

Of course you can't see the vote count until after you've voted, which brings me to the next point:

2. Ask someone before voting

Don't vote blind, before casting your vote make sure you ask someone you trust what the situation is. Your party might set up a monitoring thread in their forum, or have someone shouting the vote count. The ACP will have a forum thread to monitor voting and a member of the politburo will shout updates as the day progresses, we'll also be available on IRC channel #aus.commie.

Citizen ROBOA on the helpline

You need time to do this so the 3rd point is:

3. Plan ahead

Don't login 5 mins before day change and wonder where to go to find out the vote count. Plan when you're able to vote knowing your schedule, and make sure you know beforehand how you'll get the vote count. If you need help ask someone you trust or maybe your party president before election day. You can be fairly certain there will be people on IRC (rizon channel #ausrep) who will be monitoring things if you want a real-time update.

Proper Planning Prevents PTOs

It's an unfortunate situation, but with a few simple steps you can do your bit to guard against PTO.
