Pictures, tables AND MORE!!!: congress election review [06/2010] (113th issue)

Day 952, 14:51 Published in United Kingdom Latvia by SpeedKing

Back in my time in Latvia, I used to make congress election statistics each month. Although it's been a few days, I still wanted to do this.

Congress seats
Although 40 seats are usually contested in the British parliament elections, this time just 17 people were elected. This was due to the war which happened around election time.

The Unity Party, rather predictably, won the election and received 7 out of 17 seats in the parliament. UKRP was second with 4 MPs, SDP has 2 seats (although one of their elected candidates was banned), PCP also has two and Spectrum came in last place with one seat. The remainder 23 seats were not contested due to Plumber Intervention.

The Unity Party has two elected MPs in both Wales and Northern Ireland. Although they had two directly elected MPs in London, UKRP got the most London congressmen, as they received two out of four wildcards. In South East of England SDP, TUP and PCP are tied with one congressman each.

Pensive (TUP) won the countries largest region with an impressive 108 votes. Lon Kirk (SDP) received 16 votes, more than anyone else in South East of England. Valorum (TUP) with 11 votes was most popular in Wales, while the Northern Irish contest was won by certacito (UKRP) with 14 votes.

Tables
I know I said tables in the headline, but I didn't do any this time. I just thought it was pointless with this many congressmen, as well as the fact I wouldn't be able to compare them with last months elections. I'll try to do some next time.

Organisation
Cost per place
Thanks to this page I can see how much votes each party has and how many places have they got.

• TUP: 7 seats/271 vote
• UKRP: 4 seats/213 votes
• SDP: 2 seats/91 votes
• PCP: 2 seats/90 votes
• Spectrum: 1 seat/96 votes

This way we can calculate how much votes were needed to gain each seat and get the rankings.

1. TUP: 38,71 votes per seat
2. PCP: 45 votes per seat
3. SDP: 45,5 votes per seat
4. UKRP: 53,25 votes per seat
5. Spectrum: 96 votes per seat

Lost votes
Now I count how many votes were given for people who didn't get a seat.

• TUP: 26/271 votes
• UKRP: 19/213 votes
• SDP: 31/91 votes
• PCP: 71/90 votes
• Spectrum: 50/96 votes

Then we calculate how many percent of votes were lost.

1. UKRP: 8,92%
2. TUP: 9,59%
3. SDP: 34,07%
4. Spectrum: 52,08%
5. PCP: 78,89%

Organisedness
Then I use a very subjective formula which probably gives unreliable results. Points are calculated as x+y, where x is votes per seat*100, and y is lost seat percent*100. The less points, the better.

1. TUP: 4830 points
2. UKRP: 6217 points
3. SDP: 7957 points
4. PCP: 12389 points
5. Spectrum: 14808 points

Back when I used this formula in Latvia, a good result was less than 3000 points, and an excellent won was about 2500. Because of the larger number of voters, I'd say TUP are pretty organised and 5000 points is probably good enough. But we will know for sure in a few months, when we will be able to compare.
