Our Treasury

Day 904, 17:18 Published in Austria Austria by Rangeley

There have been many law proposals recently which have left some confused - and rightly so. Money was being slowly transferred out of the treasury since the 25th, when the Croatian political takeover seized control of congress. From that point on, legitimate members of congress were unable to transfer money into official organizations. Instead, proposals to donate to the PTO's own organizations were introduced and passed. By May 6th, when I became President, the treasury was largely depleted of resources.

Not willing to let this end their fun, the level of audacity shown by the PTO increased. Now, they donated the stolen gold back into the treasury, to issue it as currency, and increase their wealth even further. They weren't just raiding the treasury - it had become their personal ATM.

While we knew they possessed the ability to pass this legislation, there was one last arrow in our quiver. There was a small gap of time - 3 minutes - between when the currency was issued, and when the next donation could be proposed. As a presidential power, I could introduce a law to purchase a defense system - in this gap - for the same amount of currency that was just issued, blocking it from being donated for the 24 hours. Likewise, as they had donated another large sum of gold to be issued for currency, I could propose peace with Slovenia with the offer of this exact amount of gold, to block it from being used as well. The ~1,300 gold which was originally stolen from Austria could be held in block until we regained congress, and prevented from being restolen. These blocks were put into action, and began yesterday.

Threats

Today, members of the political takeover delivered a threat to me, and the government of Austria. Stop blocking their proposals in congress, allow them to steal as much as they want from Austria's treasury, and they would promise to "go away." If we didn't comply, and continued to stop them from stealing, they would raise our tax rates and minimum wage to harm the country. The decision, they said, was "in our hands."

That this sort of threat would be issued at all merely re-affirms what we already knew about this group of people. They do not care about Austria - they do not want to improve Austria. Their single concern involving Austria is how they can use it for their own benefit. That they would steal the money to begin with told us that. That they would then threaten further harm to get their way, merely reminds us. It also shows us, quite clearly, that this is not a group of people to be trusted to hold their end of a deal. You don't trust a group that came here claiming to be friends - but now is issuing threats - to stop harming you if you simply "let them have their way."

For these reasons, accepting this deal was out of the question. The decision of whether they harm the country isn't in our hands - it's in their hands, and has always been in their hands. Just as it is within all of us to do harm, or to act constructively - we are all responsible for our own actions, and cannot lay this onto someone else.

Laws and Reaction

Upon being rejected, they went forward and introduced several laws with the intent of harming Austria, perhaps hoping to coerce our compliance with the takeover group. As such, conditions in Austria could become difficult in the coming days. Prices may rise; jobs may become harder to come by. However, the government has a large reserve of food and other supplies at its disposal to help ensure a level of stability in the market - and though some of us may be willing to go unemployed, if need be, it is understandable that some would not find this acceptable. As such, government services will be provided for temporary relocation elsewhere, until congress can repeal these laws, and control has been wrestled from the takeover forces. You can receive free moving tickets by contacting the Austrian Red Cross.

This challenge, and others, will continue to be a large focus of the Austrian Government in the coming days - both as we seek to respond, and continue to protect our treasury to the best of our abilities. It reminds us of the importance this next congressional election holds - and how vital it is for legitimate people to run and be elected. Please consider joining the effort. To see what you can do, message either myself, or one of the following party leaders: PrinceOfAustria (ASO), Borojevic von Bonjar (KU), Kaiser Alex (CP), or Kikericsy (NOA). Additionally, you can meet with other eAustrians in our IRC chat room, #eAustria at irc.rizon.net, as a way of staying up to date with the current situation.
