tbh it's a shame that such a country , full of resources, vast & naturally beautiful couldn't enjoy more freedoms throughout history. If they were more free, I'm pretty sure Russia would be flourishing and be a great place to live by now. /./

As for freedom of Russia, I thought that Russia was pretty much free all the time during its long history, never been occupied by some foreign power which ruled for years/decades/centuries xD

Actually it's the same with the ex-Soviet countries, and the problem was the red cancer.

When I said free, I meant on the fact that Russia wasn't occupied by any foreign country which ruled them by force. The human freedom is a whole different question.
Yes, Soviet Russia, wasn't a paradise, more like a hell for many of its citizens, but Soviet Russia as a country was free ( in a political way ), without no foreign country influence on its own internal/foreign policy.
