Origins of the Hardcore and Famous Part 1

I'm sure we have all wondered at one time or another why players pick the names and avatars we do as they are a first impression we send out to the eworld.

This article will put to rest some of those thoughts and speculations. I messaged a wide variety of players whether I liked them or not.

Its an unwritten rule around here u don't vote people's articles or give people alot of air time on your articles for most if you don't like em.

I sent out a simple question to 20 well known long time citizens who are still eCanadian.

If you could give a brief explanation of your erep name and why you choose the avatar you did, you'll have the honor of making my next article

Homer J Simpson


I chose Homer J Simpson for my eRep name because the man is a legend. I would go as far as saying he is the funniest person on TV, real or drawn.

The guts of my avatar have changed many times but the one consistent thing is the Crimson cog around the outside. It is a condition of membership to wear the cog and wear it proudly, something I have always been more than happy to do.

The current insert in my avatar is the Aussie Rules footy team I barrack for, the Essendon Bombers

My name was from when I played Everquest. The random name generator gave me a name like Moogluk and I changed it to Muglack.

My avatar in it's current form happened when the TCO changed to the new Cog. I didn't want to use the Babomb anymore and I had recently been promoted to Captain so I threw a picture of Picard in the middle even though any real fan knows that Sisko was the best captain.

My eRep names stems from a musical group that I had recently discovered at the time. I quite liked them, so I used a short version of their name as my own.

My avatar is a piece of work done by an artist named 'Steez'. I owned a poster of one of his other works, so when I looked through his collection, I saw this image and quite liked it. After all, I would say it describes my relatively well

Wally Cleaver


I chose Wally Cleaver because I wanted a wholesome, likable character and who's more wholesome and likable than the Beavs older brother?

The avatar I've used has gone through a similar progression as 'Wally' has.
I started of with an image of the young innocent Wally, to Wally Cleaver near the end of the series (Leave It To Beaver) where he had a better understanding of life, to the current avatar of Wally Cleaver with crazy hair (representing the crazy streak I'm on).

Sir DeLaShaunRon Smith


At the time my friends and I were talking about what we'd name ourselves if we were college football players and I came up with DeLaShaunRon Smith. I thought the Sir would make it sound regal. It did not.

My avatar is of me enjoying a really cheap hangover breakfast in Vancouver. I was still drunk.

I chose my erep name as a joke, I didn't think I'd be playing for more than a day--I mean war? Politics? Pfft, I had Babydow open in the other tab.

Now I'm stuck with a retarded name, and I never know what to say when people ask how I came up with it. So there's really nothing I can say about its origins.

My avatar is Lady grey, from spy vs spy.

Plugson


Name: It's taken from a book called "Past and Present" (1843) by Thomas Carlyle. The book itself is a bit odd since it uses medieval history/feudalism to comment on the terrible state of England during the Industrial Revolution. Plugson of Undershot is a short-sighted Captain of Industry who loves money more than all else and doesn't yet see the greater potential of the people who toil in his cotton mills. Anyway, I liked the character of Andrew Undershaft (a Mephistopholean great arms industrialist of Europe) from Shaw's 'Major Barbara,' who as it turns out, was based on Carlyle's Plugson, which all just seemed to fit for eRepublik when I was thinking about a citizen name.

Avatar: A pale plug ~ I was a big comic collector when I was a kid and that interest has led me to use a few comic book characters as avatars during my time here. I came across this image from "The Watchmen" comic when I was doing research for an article series I wrote earlier this year. It’s the plug for an energy hydrant (http://watchmen.wikia.com/wiki/Veidt_Enterprises#Energy_Hydrants) for electric vehicles made by Veidt Enterprises. The hydrant pops up a couple times as a kid reads a comic book next to a newsvendor and isn’t all that important, except that it goes well with my newspaper icon.

Nogin the Nog


when i was young, mum used to read me story books about Nogin the Nog, it was also a childrens cartoon many many moons ago, also in ireland people call heads Nogin's, as in use your nogin.

Not the greatest of erep names, but didn't think i'd be around for so long, when i picked it.

The avatar is me.

Oh, wow, thank you for bestowing such an honour on me.

Let's see, where did my name come from? It comes from my joyful days when I used to play Runescape, back when it was cool and stuff. Being the forgetful fool that I was, I made several accounts and always forgot the name/password. It was just awful.

Then I came up with this name... the Armour part referring to the armour your character wore and the 144 because 4 is my favourite number and other numbers were taken.

And then I wrote down the name and password. Armour144 was born.

Now, as for my avatar, it doesn't really relate to my name. For the longest time I used http://ui01.gamespot.com/1429/spartan_2.jpg. That relates a bit more to my name. This avatar is really just cause it looks pretty cool and I've played Assassins Creed.

My eRep name came from a mix of a RL nickname I got in highschool and my RL name.

I just combined the two and I've been using that in online games and things like xbox gamer tag for years now.

My latest avatar is a Character of off Dragon Ball Z, Vegita. He's a bad guy who has a nice streak deep down.... I'm similar but on the opposite side of the coin.... I'm a nice guy who has a badass streak to me..... (at least I think so) Hence why I joined up with the Roughnecks.... I'm being bad ass

Nogin the Nog needs more RL rack in her avatar who's gettin on that bandwagon with me.

Armour144 i've always thought ur name was cool kinda miss the old school spartan.

Treian it took me a few months to spell your name correctly on a regular basis. I before E accept after ahhh f*** it whatever. Dragon Ball Z blows. Even if I haven't watched an episode in my life.
