Orientation: Newspapers

Day 1,579, 22:26 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Stefan1992
Newspapers are a major source of communication and information on eRepublik. Many citizens have a newspaper, but only a few write great articles. This guide will help you succeed in writing an insightful article. For a complete list of guides, look at this article or go directly to Orientation on the Wiki.

Media Module

The Media Module can be accessed from the home page, where there are seven categories you can choose from (details below). You can also check out the news by going to the Community tab and clicking News. At that section, you can see the most voted, most recent and international news. If you are browsing through articles, or wanting to create your own, there are several categories you can choose from. Below is a list of those categories and what they are all about.

Category: First Steps in eRepublik
Info: This is where you will find the guides and tutorials for new players. This is a great place to start if you are new or need a refresher. It will probably include articles talking about changes to eRepublik.

Category: Battle Orders
Info: Needless to say, this is where the Ministry of Defence will have their military orders catergorised under. Check this out to know where to fight, and be sure to subscribe to their newspaper to have updates.

Category: Warfare Analysis
Info: This category will have articles that discuss the latest events on the military campaigns in the eUK and across the world. If you want to know what battles are going on and how the eWorld and its alliances are affected by these events, you can find articles here.

Category: Political Debates and Analysis
Info: This is where you are going to find both political manifestos and analysis of elections and what the government is doing. During election time, especially Congress Elections, the media is flooded with articles, so hopefully this will store all those manifestos in one handy category.

Category: Financial Business
Info: This section deals with economic matters. Whether it is about the unstable monetary market or new job offers with great benefits or perhaps an analysis on the state on the country's finances, this is where you'll find out all the articles on money.

Category: Social Interactions and Entertainment
Info: This is the "none of the above" category. You'll find a little bit of everything here, from competitions to trolling. If you are not sure where to categories your article, this is probably the best option.

Category: Newspaper Subscriptions
Info: This is where you will find a list of the latest articles from newspapers you are subscribed to. Be sure to subscribe to the important government newspapers!

Creating an Article

CREATING A NEWSPAPER

To create an article, you must first create a newspaper. You need to be at Level 9 (80XP) to have this feature unlocked. The cost of creating a newspaper is two gold. You can create a name for your newspaper, as long as that name is not already chosen (ex: News of the World is already taken, but not The News of the eWorld). You can also upload an icon for your newspaper. These two features can be edited whenever you want, but I wouldn't change that too often or it might confuse your subscribers.

FORMATTING

This section covers different features and tools used in formatting, such as bolding, linking, etc. Below is a chart of several different things you can use to make your article more appealing. Many of these features will be avaliable on screen when you edit a page, but I've always found it easier to do it the manual way.

TIPS

Here are some tips for writing good articles.
• Keep things eRepublik related. We all know Assad is a crazy dictator, you don't need to state that in an aritcle. People don't like it when you talk about real life stuff.
• Try not to point out the obvious, such as "The eUK has passed an MPP with Indonesia. I believe this will help us on the battlefield." Put in some insightful and thoughtful analysis.
• If you are running for Congress, make realistic points. Don't say you will take over the world if elected.
• Check your spelling and grammar. People aren't going to think highly of your newspaper if u right lik dis.
• People like images. Try to use one if applicable. Images can be no larger than 400px; if an image is larger than that, it will automatically be reduced to that number.

Miscellaneous Info

• You can see how many people have subscribed to your newspaper by clicking your newspaper and looking at the top right corner. You can subscribe to other newspapers by clicking the "Subscribe" button which can be found at the top right corner of their newspaper. It is recommended that you subscribe to your country's government newspapers.
• People can write comments on your articles. You will see who posted the comment, but if you don't like it, you cannot do anything about it. Only the person that wrote the comment can delete it.
• You can edit or delete previous articles you have written. Just click on that article, and those two options will be shown on the left, under the amount of votes that article recieved.
