On the new front line
Thomas Fairfax
Swords and Ploughshares - A polemical rag of the worst kind
“O ye that love mankind! Ye that dare oppose, not only the tyranny, but the tyrant, stand forth! Every spot of the old world is overrun with oppression. Freedom hath been hunted round the globe”
– Thomas Paine.
Swords and Ploughshares has only ever been a weak supporter of pointless alliances. PEACE and PHOENIX have both been props to futile rivalries between member states, legitimising tools used to justify childish revenge fantasies. But casting aside meaningless names, the United Netherlands now finds itself on the front line against a tyrannical empire. Let us discard the tag “PHOENIX” for the time being – and substitute the natural alliance between the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the United Netherlands, and their sympathisers. Facing us and our friends is an empire more tyrannising than any known before.
In the heyday of PEACE and ATLANTIS, Swords and Ploughshares was often amongst the first to accuse both alliances equally. PEACE and ATLANTIS were both aggressive organisations committed to nothing more than ongoing rivalry. Neither system possessed an ideology or philosophy of its own. But in our current era, the United Netherlands and her allies have had an ideal forced on them.
Poland and Spain have entered a diabolical pact to take tyrannical conquest further than ever before. Where was France the aggressor? When did Germany seek to wipe Poland off the map? In what polemic did the United Netherlands level its weapons on Spain? Poland and Spain have entered a war of pure conquest, casting aside even the petty logic of revenge, they have brought the total war of Indonesia and her enemies to Europe.
When Poland approached our borders through Germany, the United Netherlands was forced to declare war in the defence of our friends and our principles. The war for democracy was forced onto the United Netherlands by Spain and Poland, who have brushed away the old era of PEACE and ATLANTIS in the process. Make no mistake, citizen of the United Netherlands – this is the new battle, the battle for democracy and legitimate government, and the United Netherlands is now besieged behind the last fortress.

All the fun of the fair I guess, it is what keeps the game interesting. Besides, as anyone who has played for a while will know, empires dont last.
