On The Brink Of War: CONGRESSMEN VOTE YES
WahooBob
This is a Weekend Update Special Announcement
Australia has proposed for New Zealand to be their Natural Enemy, the vote is currently set to pass around 23:30 tonight.
New Zealand responded by also proposing Australia as their Natural Enemy, but the vote is currently NOT PASSING. There is still time to turn that around.
It will be VERY important that this law pass, otherwise Australia will have a 10% bonus against us in the war, and we will not.
The Natural Enemy law, like an impeachment, must have a 66% majority to pass. Most other laws need only 51%. If passed, the Natural Enemy cannot be changed again for a week. If the proposal fails, a new proposal can be made immediately.
More details to follow later this afternoon, as they arise.
Update at 14:30 (Day 1157):
Well there are just too many "No" votes to pass. It once again looks like the Aotearoa faction will be setting military policy for the entirety of New Zealand with closed-door meetings and little transparency. It's just something to think about as the Congress elections approach.
It appears that we will be participating in a land swap with Australia. According to an article just published by Welshlad (our MoFA), the objective is to gain a Cattle region in Tasmania, but it will result in us losing Otago. Comments from our president indicate we may also lose Canterbury. Losing both would result in a 25% drop in productivity for Iron companies. We will be expected to conduct Resistance Wars from within Australia at some point.
Meanwhile, Bass Junkie, a former Australian, reports that the Aussies are looking for a real war, jot just a land swap. That surprise twist may prove to make Aotearoa look pretty silly for trusting them. With our "staunch ally" Serbia busy defending Iran from the United States, New Zealand could well be in big trouble.
In other news,
I found a pretty cool article about a contest in Poland. From what I can tell, you pay a 2 PLN entry fee and then make your own music video. Post it on Youtube, and the winner will get a large cash prize along with the option to participate in future contests without paying the fee. Get the details here.
And in the Ukraine, a Poker tournament with several options for level of play.
Comments
lol wut
the point being making both your countries easier pray for the indos or what??
Congressmen VOTE NO for the NE it's a regions swap and we need that NE to complete it later on. There is an article coming out soon enough and you can get all the info on chat. Vote NO!
Kruojca:
For real? Why is it that nobody was told then? There was no announcement in a newspaper for citizens to be prepared. No warning to Congressmen on the forums. Not even a PM to a single one of the opposing Party Presidents.
I am dissapoint.
Well lets wait and see what the CP has to say before we all start making assumptions. I think Wahoobob has a right to be angry and lets see what the Cabinet has to say.
Err, Oboacer:
Kurojca is the CP.
Though you wouldn't know it if you read the forums or the in-game media.
It's getting Nuts!!!
The first stage is us loosing Otago and Canterbury so besides getting informed civilian ppl have nothing to do for the next few days. eAussies told us they are ready this morning and we started it right away so we would not waste more time. Article was not ready because eAussies suprised us, we were waiting for days for their congress procedure to finish. MOD is publishing an article as I said, we haven't slept working on details concerning NZDF and final phases of swap and he went straight to an exam 😐 So before you go public with some ideas, or start criticising you can simply ask and it will be explained.
And I would kindly ask you to edit your article so that congressmen can should vote NO.
Kurojca: Would it have been so hard to post in your newspaper 2 lines that say "Don't be worried about Australian NE proposal. It will be a landswap. Details to come tonight."
I did, in fact, check the forums (Congress section and Cabinet section) as well as the media before I posted anything. Don't even try to put this on me. This is a communication failure from your administration.
@Kurojca: Im not good at politics and stuff, but why do we have to loose 2 regions, both with iron?
And I do have to agree with Bob. This gov lacks communication A LOT.
You are saying that your false information in news and critics about something that are not appropriate are actually my fault? You now really good that we barely use forums, and there is a topic in irc set this morning about voting. I will repeat once more that eAussies surprised us and because of the time difference we did not have a chance to publish an article yet. We were to busy making other preparations, and the entire government and a lot of people were aware of this happening soon enough.
So all the Serbs knew about it basically?
Seems a bit odd that we give away 2 regions, in fact what happens to the people who are in those regions, like me?
@WahooBob Once again, can you please change the voting suggestion?
@lasex @runningtings It's the cheapest, fastest and the only locigal way to exchange regions. And runningtings, did you not find out this morning like everyone else? You received igm. Government is not all Serbian, and actualy Welshlad and Crusadercarl helped me the most yesterday and today. I never get myself involved in comments, especially if they have political background, this time I am trying to get the law denied in time.
No, I won't change it. All I know about the plan so far is that we are to lose our 2 iron regions. I don't like that plan. I would vote against it.
Kurojca: It took me literally less than 2 mins to type up the initial article. Why could you have not done the same as soon as you saw the Aussie NE Proposal go up?
I received no igm about this, only about working in the company producing weapons.
Nothing about the fact that I will need to move to stay in eNZ.
Makes me sad that I am not on the need-to-know list.
There is no such thing, all those who were online atm were up to date, in you igm it suppose to say why are we making q5 - to have for swap. Also, you will need to be in eAustralia because of the rw we will do there...
Ok cool, maybe an article or a post in the forum would be good.
Are we getting issued MTs for coming back etc.
Its good to talk.
We also need to consider the impact that this had upon the citizens of eNZ. Some are going to be forced to move to either Wellington or Auckland. We are going to have a massive movement and this could led to us losing people to eAustralia as they may prefer remaining with that nation.
I don't know how I feel about this but for now I will await the new article that comes out and then see what happens. However, I'm not pleased that this is happening 8 days before the Congressional elections.
The least you could do, WahooBob, is remove the part about "congressman vote yes". Even if you won't say "vote no", you don't know enough information to either affirm or deny this law.
In other words, show some journalistic integrity.
Adam Reese: I fail to see how he is required to change the title of his article when we know nothing about this deal, just the CP and a few others. When our government plays ball, maybe WahooBob will too.
dont move out of those regions, we need people to fight in the RW that the gov has planned...
@Xanthar Zaiban I claim now that around 50 people knew about this by the time the article was published. You don't expect of me to make a special report to wahoobob?
@kurojca: I don't need a personal report, but with over 700 citizens in the country, 50 seems like a small number - especially when a good deal of Congressmen are in that number.
No I don't. My point was that the article title doesn't need to be changed. Like he said in his comments, if you don't like articles like this, then informing the nation before things happen is a good policy. Like WahooBob said, 2 minutes worth of typing would have saved a whole lot of arguments in the end. As the CP, isn't it your job to engage the public so that they know what is happening? I guess this is all part of the learning curve, don't you think? I don't want you to feel like I am attacking you, because I'm not, I just think all of this could have been avoided with good communication.
You are absolutely right. But don't you find it rather bad that we give ppl different instructions and data? My point all along was that this matter could have been simply asked about and it would be answered right away. About 15 people asked me this morning and I told them. I take responsibility for running late with the article but many things contributed to that. I was informed that it is a go this morning at 8:00 am my time (haven't slept was arranging NZDF's companies with CC). Also our NE proposal was a rash act of one person which was not planned. And those 50 I mention are just ppl that were on chat atm and found that first hand or asked about it latter.
And since I did not have an article ready there were information on both irc chat topics, and I did not want to publish some partial info and spent some time writting that article itself. And I simply asked for edit right away. This was a long and busy day...
Not everyone goes onto IRC kurojca. You know this. This is likely the first time many have heard of this.
And not everyone goes into the forums, Marcos. Funny how that works.
The title needs to be changed. That's all there is to it. If not, then WahooBob is a worse journalist than I thought before. He would rather create sensationalist trash than actual news.
If you call yourself a journalist, at least do some research before jumping the gun, like you always do. You're embarrassing yourself by keeping this the way it is, when everyone now knows differently.
I refer back to the figures I used when Fionia proposed such a swap....region for region means eNZ is getting ripped off!
Its probably easier to get onto the forums than it is irc, though.
The forums are a hellhole, so I can't blame them for not wanting to go on there.
@Adam: Maybe they are, but only as a result of you and Rellori.
Or Bass giving me worthless admin warnings like "you are unliked by the community".
@Alfagrem, Aus got a better deal, we knew that. But who else do you propose we give our iron to? We lose nothing and gain something. As well as strengthining ties between us and Aus which is only a good thing.
They should be paying rent, or at least MPP when peace is signed 😒
@Adam, the forums are just fine for everyone except you. Probably because of the way you conduct yourself.
eNZ SHOULD be getting a little something extra considering the disparate value involved.
runningtings, did you not read what I just put?
@Adam, yes I did.
I am referring to the Ask Adam thread in which you invited people to ask you questions. You then refused to answer when asked one.
I mean come on, I know you are no rocket scientist, but think about it.
I only refused to answer questions of a personal and/or private nature. That was in the original post. If you're not going to read that part, why even ask questions?
Knowing where I work is hardly worth knowing, since it has zero effect on the game and your interactions with me.
