On Separatists and Rogues

Day 528, 15:02 Published in Canada Canada by CSD

It’s a funny thing about context. It turns out when you read something in context, you might actually have a chance of coming to the truth.

It is absolutely true that in a single post in an ongoing thread I suggested that the CSD might want to incorporate a new Ministry of Francophone Affairs and Culture to Cabinet, and may want to offer that position to one of the PNQ members.

There are also a number of other things that are true:
• That no decision had been made to follow through on the suggestion.
• That the PNQ was never contacted and is not now endorsing the CSD
• That the rogue CSD member that took the screenshots didn’t voice any concern about it in a thread that was explicitly asking for participation and input and had demonstrated responsiveness to said input.
• That no one contacted myself, the forums, or (to my knowledge) any member of the discussion to clarify or voice a concern.

Please take a moment to ask yourselves how the suggestion I made is supposed to be in support of separatism. Asking a separatist party to participate in federalist cabinet doesn’t exactly scream “Vive le Québec Libre!” does it? Instead, it demonstrates a commitment to hearing out the unique concerns of francophone citizens squarely in the context of a unified nation. Social-cultural equality is a basic tenet of Social Democracy and we are, after all, the Canadian Social Democrats.

Don’t be fooled to think that these accusations and outcries are from committed CSD members who are concerned for the integrity of their “beloved party”. They are the underhanded actions and polemic ejaculations of rogue members who are not interested in building up a better party or a better eCanada through participation.

If they were, they would have actually taken part in the conversation, or bothered to sign up to the forum where such conversations take place. What they are interested in is fostering a cult of personality at the expense of both the party and the nation and tearing down the best efforts of the people that are doing the actual work.
