Of Crossroads and Uncertainties

Day 1,205, 19:12 Published in USA USA by The Libertine

Here we stand yet again. Uncertain people in uncertain times. A country at a crossroads. A world at a crossroads. A game at a crossroads. Changes keep coming faster than most can keep up with, yet the sun continues to rise and set each day, whether we are ready for it or not. Some, around the world, have left the game recently. The rest of us struggle to persevere. Struggle to find something worth holding onto. Struggle for certainty.

The human condition is one of a struggle for certainty, and the coming weeks will test our desire for this essential component of the psyche.

A country at a crossroads

Peace is the ultimate form of certainty. The certainty that we can coexist with those closest to us, our friends and neighbors and collaborators, without the fear of immediate danger.

Domestically, we face a host of electoral issues that I will not elaborate much upon here. Some days it appears that there will be peace within our borders. Other days we are a country on the verge of civil war. This cycle is taking a toll on everyone on all sides.

The events that will take place on the 25th of March may be the last true chance for domestic peace within the eUnited State. The odds of achieving this are much higher than many would believe, but there are still 15 days left for things to turn sour.

A world at a crossroads

Certainty can be found in war as well, at least in eRepublik.

Every since the break down of of PHOENIX and the withering of EDEN, there has been massive international uncertainty. Global alliances are still in the process of formation. Former allies are now pitted against each other, some willingly and others not as much. Older citizens hold old grudges and old loyalties. Newer citizens are open to trying new things, but often hold less power and clout compared to their elders.

One major unexpected result of the recent global ceasefire is that it gave PANAM the ability to regroup. After a period of uncertainty brought on by the resignation of former SG St Krems, new leadership elections have been held, and renewed development and coordination between PANAM nations is underway. The fact that more than just about all NWO CPs were permabanned a week ago during the "revolution" didn't hurt either.

However there are still dozens of unanswered questions. How will PANAM deal with the Turkish issue? Can all PANAM nations be brought together to work in unity with the remnants of EDEN, or will each new war in the world slowly splinter the alliance, by pitting members on opposite sides of old relationships against each other.

As the ceasefire wears off and the new PANAM leadership team gets up to full speed it should become clear what this hodgepodge of allied nations will evolve into. Until then, we wait with bated breath to see what comes next. If PANAM can live up to its potential it will be an amazing sight to see.

A game at a crossroads

And we end where it all begins - the game.

I will try not say much on this matter and to keep it vague, because I am getting tired of FPs and having articles removed.

Several huge changes are still in the pipeline for eRepublik. Each new change brings with it both good and bad externalities. But regardless of the "goodness" of each change, change itself (or knowing it will soon come) brings uncertainty.

Long term planning in eRepublik is essentially dead. Citizens and government, business owners and military leaders, simply cannot plan ahead or have no desire to do so when they know that things will change as fast as they do and will do so little or no advanced warning.

Many long time strategists and political organizers are stepping back from the meta-game and retiring to two clicking and/or joining militias. I find myself moving in that direction. There is no joy in embarking upon a new project when all progress will likely be nullified either before completion or shortly after.

There is uncertainty surrounding us, but there is always hope.

A world at a crossroads must eventually choose a path.

What path will it be?
