Hi guys, Cheese here. (When you vote it’l be CheeseBall, because if you vote for some guy named Cheese, I’ll be really up set
😛). Anyway back to the matter at hand. Military seems to be the logical place to start considering my last job in the e-UK. So now I give you:
Diplomacy
Ah Diplomacy, one of the most fun and intriguing parts of erep. It is generally considered of high importance to maintain diplomacy amongst others. But how do we choose who those others are? How do we know what is right for us?
You may here some in Australia who cry out for war against Indonesia, these are usually the young and the brash who do not yet understand. But be fair, we were all young and brash once so do not chastise those who cry for it too hardly.
You may hear some in Australia who call for the joining to PEACE to strengthen ties with Indonesia. This is a fair belief for some but has a major flaw, Australia would be fighting its friends in the UK and US and Canada, people who have supported Aus whenever possible, Australia would be endangering relations with the other countries as well. We are throwing our eggs in one basket and if that basket falls, the eggs will break. The country becomes fair game for political TO(take over) as it is now an enemy not a neutrality. It looses its reputation as it will be spurning friends in this action.
You may hear some in Australia cry out for neutrality, this I believe being the best option for Australia. And here is why:
Australia is a tight rope walker; it is a nation with careful steps and careful execution of moves. It must be. There is a man at the end of the tight rope, he is the Indonesian Government. He holds the rope in his hands. The shaking of this rope could very well be extremely bad for this tight rope walker, so it must do as the man says within a certain degree but is largely left to its own devices. But if something is done that is not pleasing to the crowd, Indonesian citizens, he will shake the rope and make them fall. On the other hand if the crowd is pleased the man will steady the rope and help the tight rope walker with his routine.
If the man has made the tight rope walker fall there is a net below. But this net is different; it has a mind of its own. It represents not only the countries of ATLANTIS but the neutral ones as well. If they are unhappy with the choices of the tight rope walker the net might just become weak and let them fall though if the walker falls. But if the tight rope walker shows respect and friendship towards the net the net will hold the tight rope walker safe if it falls. On the other hand the tight rope walker must not be too friendly to the net because the crowd will get annoyed, they will want their money back. And then where will the walker be.
Diplomacy is all about balance. I believe Australia’s best choice is to maintain its neutrality and be friends with the countries we like and ignore what alliance they are a part of. And why should we not? There are no disadvantages to being the friends of many. The rewards of good trade and many helping hands when needed are benefits of this neutrality. This does not mean we cannot fight in wars, it means we are not blinded by allies but can fight for the people we see are in the right. Otherwise we can divide our forces to attack both sides evenly if we wish not to affect the battle.
This neutrality is what I will fight for. I fight for friends among all nations. We do not need an alliance to be secure if we get along with other countries well enough to call them friends. I will fight not to join both PEACE and ATLANTIS and the European alliance that is in its forming stages. What I will fight for is to make friends amongst the nations in those alliances and out.
Remember we do not need to join an alliance to have an ally.
We do not have to have an alliance to have a friend.
Stay tuned for Military and Economics!!

A good statement, but how would you feel if eIndonesia was to approach us with a small regional alliance separate to PEACE? Maybe if it consisted of them, us, NZ, and some of the smaller nations in the area, would you be against something of that kind? At the same time, not cutting off any of our current ties?
I agree that we should stay as neutral as possible in this current climate, as a matter of fact, I came up with the slogan of "eAustralia, the new RL Switzerland." but I still think that we should lean closer to those near us. Anyhow, I'd love to hear your viewpoint on this idea.
Fair statement.
Regional alliances can be good and bad. I don't think we need to define ourselves in one however. What we CAN do is have a closer bond with our neighbors which is always good. But again we do not NEED to define our allies in an alliance.
I quite like the idea of an Asia-Pacific forum (regular links and discussions, not a RL forum setup...), with no Mutual-Protection pact built in. The neutrality argument in the post here is well-written, and makes alot of sense for the foreseeable future.
Well done, and I'm glad to see you in eAustralia, CheeseBall
Don
have a great day
Well me may need to do something official with the Indonesians, especially with the next agreement being formed at the moment.
You can do something official with them to become allies but that doesn't have to put us in an alliance nor does it stop us being allies of others
@Xavier : In my personal opinion any agreement should ensure that we're free, both in our territories & in spirit. Without that, eIndonesia is a imperialistic oppressor & not the friends they claim to be. They can't both be friends & imperialistic occupiers.
@Xave: It's been pointed out on the forums, but I'll tell you here as well: As soon as Australia "picks a side" (in terms of an alliance) we immediately make enemies of the other group. Our best course of action at this point is to remain neutral.
I totally agree with Derek 😃
well written!Vote!
