Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to the first edition of The Marathon Herald. There shall hopefully be a daily release from now on, and we shall be bringing you all the military news from around the eWorld. I hope you enjoy.


SOUTHERN FRANCE

The Spanish have recovered from the position they were in earlier this month to launch a successful attack on the South of France, capturing Aquitaine, Midi - Pyrenees, Languedoc Roussillon, Rhone Alps, Auvergne and Limousin. Today, The Spanish have continued their offensive, attacking Poitou Charentes. As of currently, however, the French have defeated the assault, and have also driven the Spanish back from all front line provinces (Rhone Alps, Auvergne and Limousin). This has certainly been a setback for the Spanish in their offensive. It shall no doubt be countered though, so it shall be a focus for fighting over the next few days.

EASTERN FRANCE

At the same time, the French have been on the offensive in the East of France/West of Germany. The Poles, who have recently steamrolled across Germany, threatening the British in the Netherlands, had driven south west to the border with France. The Poles attacked Lorraine yesterday, but were repulsed. The French have counter-attacked in Rhineland - Palatinate. At the moment, the French are winning the battle, which is surely a major setback for the Polish attack into France. This two-pronged attack (including the Spanish offensive), obviously designed to spread the Phoenix defenders, has backfired, and split the EDEN forces.

SOUTHERN GERMANY

Germany was recently crushed under a three pronged attack from Sweden, Italy and Poland. However, the Germans have freed the Italian controlled regions of Bavaria, Saxony and Baden - Wurttemberg. South of the border, the Italians had destroyed the Austrians, leaving them with two regions in Vorarlberg and Burgenland. Today, the Austrians struck back at the Italians, attacking Tyrol. The Austrians won this battle, which is a set back to an Italian thrust back into Germany. Also, the Germans have attacked Salzburg, but this battle has been won by the Italians.

UNITED KINGDOM

The Irish have driven the United Kingdom out of Ireland, from their holding in the Northeast of Ireland, but the defense of Wales has failed. The Americans are still poised in the Southwest of England, and Canada poised in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North of England. There is a real threat of a stalemate evolving, especially if the battles in France take priority for both EDEN and Phoenix forces.

HUNGARY

The Hungarians have recovered from being wiped off the map a week or so ago, and have regained all but one of their original regions, Southern Transdanubia, which is held by Croatia. The Hungarians attacked here today, but due to an attack by Ukraine on Northern Hungary, failed to recapture their last region. Northern Hungary was secured by the Hungarians with little fight.

SOUTHERN RUSSIA

Russia has been driving the Romanians out of their regions in Southern Russia over the last few days. Today, they drove out the Hungarians from Central Black Earth. This is a high grain region, and is a great victory for the Russians, who have freed two high grain regions, a high oil and a high iron region from the Romanians. This will no doubt hurt the Romanian economy.

OVERALL

EDEN has taken severe hits on all fronts on Europe today. However, whether these are simply setbacks, or something more major is yet to be seen. The next few days shall be crucial in the struggle for France and Italian held Austria. The British Front seems to be quite stable, and I doubt there will be any big changes there in the next couple of days.
