Nostalgia Meets More Nostalgia

Day 812, 11:58 Published in USA USA by Desparye

I wrote this article on day 672. This piece itself is a bit of nostalgia for some. I chuckled a little at the mention of parter. There's more after this, but I have a feeling this may be a tl;dr for some, so I'll keep it short.

As I was cleaning out my laptop, as I'm preparing to give it away, I found a picture file titled "world map." Curious, I clicked it. It looked like this.

As you can see, it was of a little over a year ago, day 290. How different the world was back then. Yes, that pink is not Russia, it is, in fact, Norway. Contrary to what parter and his people might want you to think, Russia hasn't ever been completely united under their red, white, and blue stripes since v1 came out. Hungary was mostly occupied by Romania, as you can see. One of our most steadfast allies, Croatia, didn't even exist yet. This was before Turkey decided to finish off Greece, as you can notice. And if you notice China and India, it's all under the rule of the once great Pakistani Empire. Germany, Poland, and Denmark are all under Swedish occupation at the time.

This map shows the golden age of a dead alliance, ATLANTIS. A time where the UK was one of our allies, when the power was firmly placed in our hands.

Then I stumbled upon this, named worldmap2.

(Credit goes to the original maker of these maps, as I don't have my laptop anymore. And I apologize, a larger map doesn't exist, as the link for it was broken)

Notice in both the change of ATLANTIS nations. Yet Indonesia, for the most part, remained pretty unchanged (though they granted a few Australian territories sovereignty).

So what changed?
Well, my fine reader, PEACE learned a lot from us while we were the big dogs. When ATLANTIS was the throne of the world, we abused our power to further expand to the far reaches of the globe. We wanted to do what PEACE does now, we wanted the world. And like PEACE, we thought we were invincible. A year later? ATLANTIS is no more, and PEACE has simply replaced ATLANTIS as the imperialistic alliance bent on crushing their enemies and taking over the world. They even borrowed the attitude we once had!

But the one thing PEACE never truly paid attention to, or rather, ignored the details as to why and rejoiced at the fact that it happened, was ATLANTIS' collapse. To put it shortly, ATLANTIS grew too powerful and too large to be an organized force. Agendas changed from alliance based to individualistic based. And additionally, PEACE was more motivated than we were, as they were fighting for their survival, not fighting for a larger empire.

Notice the similarities to the world today? I bet you do, as it doesn't take much thought to notice how history repeats itself. Granted, certain details are different, but history never repeats itself exactly.

Now if you look at the world today, day 672, you see how it looks absolutely nothing like it did a year ago. However, imperialism still exists, and there are people standing up to the aggression. A year ago, it was us, the nations of ATLANTIS, waging war for the fun of it. Today, it's PEACE, the alliance meant to defend themselves against us, attacking us for the same reasons we attacked them a year ago. And a year from today? Only time will tell us who.

Fast forward to today, day 812

PEACE is dead, resurrected in Phoenix. EDEN has dominated western Europe. Poland is rising, rapidly. It's funny, so much has changed in such a short time period. Indonesia is hardly a fragment of what it once was. The USA has high iron and has mounted successful offenses. France is gone.

It just goes to show you that nothing is ever constant in eRepublik, or life for that matter. Every dog has his day. Enjoy it while it lasts, guys.
